[14204] Edward arrived in Portsmouth, NH in 1621 and is called "Father of New Hampshire." In 1623 he and brother William began the settlement of Dover, NH where he r. until 1671. He was Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Before emigrating to America he was apprenticed to Marie, widow of Charles Hilton of the Fishmongers Co. (1611) and became a Freeman of that Guild in England. He m. (2) in July, 1650 Catherine Shapleigh (ca. 1600-1676). His residence was the South Newmarket section of present Exeter, NH. Cf.
