"Col. James Gilmore was a soldier in the French and Revolutionary Wars and did valiant service. May 7, 1764, he was appointed Ensign in the 7th Company, 8th Regiment by the Royal Governor, Benning Wentworth. May 10th, 1770 he was Commissioned Lieutenant in the same company by Governor John Wentworth. September 5, 1775 the Congress of the Colony of New Hampshire appointed him Captain of the 3rd Co., 8th Regt. Dec. 2nd, 1775 the Committee of safety authorized him to raise immediately a company of sixty one men to serve in the Continental Army and report to General Sullivan at Winter Hill (Somerville Mass.) He was elected Major by vote of the town. He was commissioned Colonel of 8th Regiment March 25, 1785 by Mescech Weare, President of the state. His service as Captain was in Colonel Burnham's Regt. at Winter Hill, July to Oct. 1776. He was in Captain Barrows Company, Col. Wyman's Regt. in the Canadian Expedition; August 1778 in Col. Gales Regt. of volunteers for Rhode Island. In the N.H. War Records James Gilmore Enlisted April 28, 1758 and discharged October 4, 1758 for Crown Point service.
"James bought land at Moose Point, Belfast, Maine, on the westerly side of the Penobscot River. This was for speculation as he never lived in Belfast. The first occupation of James was that of blacksmith. Samuel Houston Jr., William Houston and John Brown,Jr. all of Belfast Maine. appraisers of the estate of James Gilmore late of Salem, in the County of Rockingham, State of New Hampshire."

[58392] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 30 December 2024: "Orono and Mount Desert - Marion Louise (Schurman) Peckham, 98, formerly of Mount Desert passed away on December 27, 2024, at Dirigo Pines in Orono surrounded by loved ones and caregivers. Marion was born March 3, 1926, in Northeast Harbor, ME, to Bessie L. (Haynes) and W. Parker Schurman. Marion was raised by Bessie and Lawris R. 'Rip' Graves. She attended local schools and graduated from Gilman High, Northeast Harbor, class of 1944. Marion attended Leland Powers School of Radio and Theater in Boston, Massachusetts where she graduated with an associate degree. She married George F. Peckham Jr. in June 1950. (June 1950-August 2019). Marion and George had two children, Jeffery Alan (February 1953) and Stephanie Lee (February 1955). Marion was employed at several businesses before she married George, her last employer as a single woman was Rockefeller's office in Seal Harbor. During her marriage she worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY, and in Burlington, VT, and finished her career at G.F. Peckham, Inc., Seal Harbor. Marion was a member of The Parish of St. Mary and St. Jude Episcopal Church, where she was treasurer of the E.C.W for 14 years, (2 terms of 7 years). Marion enjoyed knitting in her spare time and belonged to St. Mary's Prayer Shawl Group where she made numerous prayer shawls. She also was a member of the quilting group where she helped make numerous quilts. She enjoyed reading and was a member of Northeast Harbor and the Mt. Desert Literary Clubs. She enjoyed putting puzzles together. George and Marion built a home in Mt. Desert and lived there for 42 years. In March 2017, they moved to Dirigo Pines, Orono, to be near their daughter, Stephanie. Marion is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Brent I. Goodwin; her granddaughters, Chelsea Marie Mooney and Kayla Jane Mooney and fiancé, Joshua Waldron; brother, Ellis Schurman and his wife, Sharon; sisters, Mary G. Gilley, Jean G. Fernald, and Sheila G. Smallidge; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Graves. She was predeceased by their infant son, Jeff; her husband of 69 years, George; her parents, Bessie W. Parker and Rip; brothers, W.P. Schurman Jr. (Jean), Richard C. Schurman (Betty), Neil Schurman, Lawris E. Graves, John H. Graves, and Thomas R. Graves; and brothers-in-law; L. Wayne Gilley, Peter W. Smallidge, and Robert B. Fernald."
