[1585] She was known as Aliénor d'Aquitaine by her contemporaries. "Although a woman of strong passions and great abilities she is, historically, less important as an individual than as the heiress of Aquitaine, a part of which was, through her second marriage, united to England for some 400 years." {- Encycl.Brit., 1956, 8:132.} "....one of the most vivid and remarkable figures in 12th-century Europe. As a patron of the arts, as a politician and as a mother, her influence was pervasive for more than six decades. Her forcefulness, ability, beauty and charm were such that once she had turned against her second husband, Henry II, he felt compelled to imprison her for 16 years to prevent her from tearing his dominions apart. ...Brought up in her father's court in the sophisticated ways of the Languedoc, she felt an exile among the uncouth Parisians, and surrounded herself with troubadours and ladies from the south. Her marriage to Henry allowed her to found her own literary court which, as she travelled around Henry's dominions, became a melting-pot for various cultural traditions. Under her patronage the ideals and codes of courtly love began to emerge. Her son, Richard the Lionhearted, inherited her love of music, and another daughter, Eleanor, took with her to Castile the distinctive Angevin style of building." {-"The Planagenet Chronicles," Elizabeth Hallam, ed., 1986, p.97.} Eleanor was Duchess of Aquitaine and Countess of Poitou, Queen of France and then Queen of England. Cf. "Eleanor of Aquitaine," Marion Meade (New York, 1977) and "Eleanor of Aquitaine," Alison Weir (N.Y.: Ballantine, 1999) and http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower1100.htm. Frank McLynn argues in "Richard and John: Kings at War" (Cambridge, MA: Da Capo Press, 2007) that Eleanor was b. in 1124 and provides a detailed description of her and her career.

[61002] Farrell's obituary: "Beals - Farrell Leroy Lenfestey, 90, went to be with the Lord Aug. 23, 2006, from the Sentry Hill Nursing Home in York. He was born Dec. 11, 1915, in Beals, son of Charles and Greta (Beal) Lenfestey. He shared beautiful, childhood memories of growing up on the family farm in Beals. He graduated from Beals High School, Class in 1933, valedictorian of his class and continued his education through reading and study. He was devoted to his God and his family, and his church. He was an elder in the Community of Christ for many years serving as pastor of Beals Congregation for 30 years and then in Corea for another three years. He was ordained to the office of evangelist/patriarch in 1984 and was active in the capacity for 10 years, at which time he continued ministry as a mentor to younger priesthood members. He had been known and loved over the years by many throughout the world church. He enjoyed taking visiting ministers and their families out in his lobster boat for a day of lobster fishing, picnics and fun. He was a self-employed lobsterman from his teenage years until his late 70s. He was co-founder and first vice president of the Maine Lobsterman's Association many years ago. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He in turn demonstrated the love of Christ toward everyone in his daily life. He loved children and youth and was always encouraging young people to be their best. He enjoyed many summers with family at their camp on Nat's Head at Slate Island Cove. He served for a time on the Boy Scout Council for the area. He also was involved with the early planning stages of Downeast Community Hospital, Machias. He was the chapel speaker at the first Maine festival at Bowdoin College, Brunswick. He was a charter member of the Beals Historical Society. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Myrtle (Beal) Lenfestey; two daughters, Sylvia (Lenfestey) Peabody and her husband, Earl, of Rochester, N.H., and Carolyn (Lenfestey) Gordon and her husband, Jack, of Eliot; four grandchildren, Cheryl (Peabody) Szacik and her husband, Peter, of Madbury, N.H., Capt. Ronald Peabody of Bristol, Amy (Gordon) Fuller and her husband, Michael, of North Berwick and Geoffrey Gordon and his wife, Kathy, of Eliot; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Farrell Gordon, Madelyn Beth Fuller and Kylie Ruth Gordon; three great-stepgrandchildren, Kaitlin, Daniel and Meghan Szacik; brothers-in-law, Charles Beal, Esten Beal Jr. and his wife, Patty and Elmer C. Beal and his wife, Marion, all of Beals; and special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Wilfred Merton Lenfestey, who died at age 15; and two sisters, Leila (Lenfestey) Beal and Willavie (Lenfestey) Beal, all of Beals."
