[57300] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 10 September 2024: "Brooklin - Juanita Mae Wood died on September 7, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on July 7, 1937, to Frank and Lillian (Friend) Carter. Nita married the love of her life, Arthur Wood, on July 14, 1954. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this summer, showing their immense love and devotion to one another. Together they built a house in Brooklin and raised their children, Paul and Nancy. After many vacation trips to North Carolina to visit dear friends, Nita designed her own dream house to be built on Lake Gaston. Arthur made this dream come true, which brought years of joy and happiness for them both. She had a fondness for animals, which led to the adoption of 6 rescue greyhounds. Nita was an artist and loved painting various landscapes. She was a talented seamstress, sewing basic outfits to elaborate Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She was known for her quilting, making fisherman knit sweaters that have been handed down through children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking treasured recipes including her famous yeast rolls, and her passion for indoor and outdoor plants and flowers. She loved being with family, especially as it grew with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nita enjoyed taking walks, antiquing, was an avid reader, and in more recent years, enjoyed going for daily rides with her husband. Nita was predeceased by her son, Paul; sister, Eleanor; and brother-in-law, Phillip. Nita is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Arthur; daughter, Nancy and her husband, Tony; granddaughter, Hannah and husband, Chris; great-granddaughters, Norah and Claire; granddaughter, Layla and husband, Brad; great-grandsons, Asher and Ezra; grandson, Lucas and partner, Mary; great-grandson, Levi; great-granddaughter, Lila; brothers David and John and wife, Audrey; sisters, Brenda, Florence, and Susan; several nieces and nephews; as well as many good friends. She was a very patient, caring, giving, thoughtful, selfless, smart, special lady. 'We missed you so quietly today, but we felt it so loudly.'"
