[38885] "The Mansfield News-Journal, 27 Sept 1993," p. 15: "Virgil L. Farst, 86, of 113 Church St died Sunday morning in Mansfield General Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Farst was born April 19, 1907, in Richland County and lived in the Mansfield and Bellville areas most of his life. A 1926 graduate of Lexington High School, he was also a graduate of the Columbus Barber College and operated barber shops in Mansfield, Little Washington and Bellville for 65 years. He was a member of the Little Washington Congregational Church, where he had served as a deacon, trustee and usher. He was a charter member of the Bellville Lions Club and was an end man in the club's annual minstrel shows for many years. He was a former member and past president of the Bellville Board of Education. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Heichel, Roma and James Gatton and Donna and David Turner, all of Bellville; eight grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Chalfant Farst; two brothers; and two sisters."

Schlegel died at the Patterson hospital in Carnegie Sunday evening, Jan. 13, after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Alden Union church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Ray Hance of Bethany, assisted by Rev. M.H. Chaney of the Spring Valley church, interment being made in the Alden cemetery. Sarah E. Faulk was born in Lancaster county, Pa., March 24, 1859 and died at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 20 days. She was married to Moses B. Schlegel May 26, 1876, who preceded her in death six years. To this union eight children were born, three of whom died in infancy, and one at the age of 14 and one daughter at the age of 48. She is survived by two sons, Harley E. Schlegel and Marshal B. Schlegel, and one daughter, Laura C. Butler, all of Carnegie, and an aged brother, living at Erickson, Pa. There are twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many other distant relatives. She was united with the Lutheran church at the age of 15, later transferring her membership to the Methodist church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge for a number of years. The family moved to Kiowa county, Okla., from Nebraska in 1902, living on their farm south of Carnegie for the past 32 years. Mrs. Schlegel was very well known in and about this vicinity and the respect and appreciation for her was shown by the beautiful floral offerings and large attendance at the services. Born in Klingerstown RD1, Aug. 8, 1897, he was a son of the late Simon P. and Emma (Seiler) Haas. He was married to the former Helen L. Erdman in 1921. Mr. Haas was a retired farmer and a former Pennsylvania Department of Highways foreman for 30 years. He was last employed at the Mandata Poultry Plant, Herndon RD1, until he retired in 1981. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ and Sunday school, Klingerstown RD1, and also served on the church consistory for many years. He was educated in the Upper Mahantongo Schools, where he later served as a school director for 12 years. He was also a fire warden for Upper Mahantongo area for 65 years and served as a Republican committeeman for 50 years. He was a member of the Klingerstown Fire Company, Mahantongo Fire Company, Herndon F&AM Masonic Lodge and Harrisburg Consistory. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Donald E. and Harry A. Jr., both of Klingerstown RD1; three grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd of Harrisburg. One brother and one sister preceded him in death."
