She was also a member of the Garden Club, Eastern Star, Graffort Club of Portsmouth and a former member of the Grange and Rebekahs in Maine. She retired after 30 years with the Prudential Insurance Co in New Hampshire. She was married to William Palfrey who predeceased her in 1988. She was also predeceased by her sister, Edna Gilbert and sister-in-law, Patricia Hutchins. She is survived by her brother, Robert M. Hutchins, brother-in-law, Gordon Gilbert, nephew Robert Gilbert, niece, Rebecca Achorn, cousin, Eugene Churchill and many great nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Hoyt and friend Les Dorr."

Her all-time favorite thing to do though was to spend time with her family. She is survived by her son, Ernest and his wife, Regina Smith, of Oakfield; her daughter, Carla Smith and her partner, Chris Joseph, of Copperas Cove, Texas; daughter-in-law, Gidget Smith of Houlton; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest "Pete" White and his wife, Linda, of Missouri, and Harris White and his wife, Patty, of Oakfield; two sisters, Sissy White and Ginny Tucker of Merrill; four sisters-in-law, Barbara, Ruby, Penny, and Joan; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Connie and Richard, Pam, Debbie, Freddie, and many more. She was predeceased by her parents, Grammy Eva and Grampie Paul Bragdon; her husband, Carl Smith; son, Thomas Smith; granddaughters, Ashley Cummings and C.J. Smith; and siblings, Dorothy, Hiram, Dennis, Phillip and Steven."
