Ernest enjoyed hanging out with his best friends, Jim and Joelle Nolan, telling stories of life's adventures, hunting, sitting on the porch at Bayside camp with family in Trenton and going to NASCAR races and events. His favorite times were spent with his wife, Karen, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed raising and showing ponies. Ernest worked several jobs, a painter for SR Tracy, Inc., long time employee of the Town of Mt. Desert, chimney sweep and beloved school bus and Island Explorer Driver.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen R. (Esterberg) Coombs; children, Steven E. Coombs (Randi Closson) of Trenton, Cindy (Ed) Luiz of Jewett City, CT., Robert (Donna) Coombs of Griswold, CT., Sandra (Fish) Fish of Lisbon, CT., David (Kim) of Kingsport, TN., Lynn (Ray) Flegert, of Lebanon, CT., Michael (Lynnette) Gordon of Cape Elizabeth, Tracy (Tony) Vadala of Londonderry, NH., Billy (Minh) Gordon of Gray; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren and many extended family. He was predeceased by his son, James S.; brothers, Harold (Sonny) and Dwight; sisters, Dolores 'Sister' Whitcomb, and Deborah Clowes."
