[21197] "The Evening News [Harrisburg, PA], 30 January 1922," p. 15: "Following an illness of four weeks, Henry F. Buffington, underkeeper at the county Jail and former clerk in tho County Commissioners' office, died last night at 9 o'clock at his home, 248 North street. Mr. Buffington was a native of Gratz, and was widely known in that neighborhood. He would have been 61 years old on March 1. He was identified with a number of fraternal societies, and was one of of the original advocates and promoters of the Gratz Fair. He held membership in Harrisburg Lodge of Moose, Modern Woodmen of the World, and John Harris Lodge, Knightd of Pythias. He received his early education in Gratz, and later received his diploma at the Berrysburg Academy, after which he taught school in Gratz for three years. In 1899 he was appointed a clerk in the county commissioners' office and remained there for thirteen years. Subsequently he held a post on Capitol Hill and later he was appointed to the prison job. Besides his widow, Lydia, he leaves one son, Ray E.; his mother, Mrs. Catherine Buffington, of Gratz; and two brothers, Milton, New York, and Irvln, Gratz. Funeral services will be held at the home on Thursday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Henry W. A. Hanson, pastor of the Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the East Harrisburg cemetery."
