Howard's obituary: "Penobscot, ME - Howard Jay Heath, 85, died peacefully, December 8, at the home of his sons and daughter-in-laws, Shawn and Kathy Heath. Howard was born August 29, 1936 in Castine, the son of Alvin and Edrie (Dunaver) Heath. Howard graduated from Bucksport High School and upon graduating he joined the United States Coast Guard. Howard left the U.S. Coast Guard with honorable discharge and worked many Maine Maritime Academy T.V. State of Maine cruises and was an avid fisherman fishing for scallops and lobsters. Later, he began working for Texas Refinery Corporation (TRC) selling roofing supplies and worked for Bay Engineering in Searsport and Industrial Welding out of Portland. While living in Alaska he worked for the Ketchikan shipyard. Howards biggest joys in life were socializing and meeting people. He hosted many parties and gatherings at his picnic area, on the Penobscot River, including, hosting the annual Shriners lobster and steak picnics and many class reunions. No matter where Howard went he always knew someone, if not, he quickly made friends with someone. He was never at a loss for words. Howard enjoyed his morning breakfast stop at the Bucksport McDonalds where he would hang with local fellas. Howard enjoyed attending many Masonic Lodge and Shriner super suppers, the Anah Temple Shrine Circus and many other events by the Royal Orders of Jesters.
Howard made a second home in Ketchikan, Alaska. Spending his mornings at the Landing and McDonalds, he would enjoy coffee with all the island old timers. He loved fishing and keeping warm company at Knudson Cove and Clover Pass Resort. Always talking about the big one that got away! His greatest love was enjoying his grandchildren. He would visit Alaska as often as he could to hunt and fish with Chase, Jake, Gage and Braydan. He enjoyed watching Emily play soccer and Tyler playing baseball. He adored his grandchildren and always made them laugh with his quick witted comments and quirky sayings. Howard is survived by two sons, Danny Heath and partner, Margaret, of Ketchikan, Alaska, Shawn Heath and wife, Kathy, of Bucksport; one daughter, Sally Jo Phillips of Penobscot; seven grandchildren, Chase Heath, Jake Heath and fiancé , Rae Dela Cruz, Gage Heath and Braydan Heath all of Alaska; Emily Heath Leach and husband, Josh, and Tyler Heath of Bucksport; three great-granddaughters Sophia and Luna Jay of Alaska, and Leni Jay of Bucksport; he is survived by one sister, Venessa Arsenault of Penobscot; brother-in-law, Merton Bunker of Wesley and three nephews, Merton Bunker Jr. and wife, Joan of Stafford, VA, Duane Bunker and wife, Sharon, of Gorham, Matthew Arsenualt and wife, Heather of Massachusetts and several great nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Edrie; one sister, Priscilla Bunker; one brother-in-law, Larry Arsenault and one nephew, David Arsenault."
