She was born on Feb. 25, 1961, at the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, the daughter of William T. Kief and Joanne (Perkins) Kief. She spent her early years in Winterport, where her family had moved in 1962, and started her schooling there. In 1968, the family moved to Hancock, where her parents had built a house, and she continued her schooling there at the Hancock Grammar School and then went on to Ellsworth High School, graduating in 1979. After high school, she did some traveling with friends around the country, visiting Texas, Florida, Connecticut and then New Hampshire. While living in New Hampshire in 1981, she met the father of her children, Christopher Allen Wharff of Merrimack, N.H."

Thomas Lanier lived in Lunenburg County, Virginia.
Thomas Lanier was seventy years old at the time of his second marriage to Frances Carter, widow of William Clanton, Jr.
He was living in Brunswick County, Virginia when Lunenburg County was formed from Brunswick early in 1746 and his land fell in the new county.
He was one of the first Justices, when the first Court assembled May 5, 1746. He moved to Granville County, North Carolina between the purchase of land there October 21, 1761 and the sale of his land in Lunenburg County January 10, 1764.
During the Revolution he took the Oath of Allegiance in the Nut Bush District of Granville County and in 1783 was paid by the Auditors of the Hillsborough District "for sundries furnished, and cash paid the Militia of North and South Carolina and Virginia."
Will dated 1804. Proved February 1806, Granville County, North Carolina
Will Book 6, pp. 205-09, names his second wife Frances, daughters REBECCA WILLIAMS, Elizabeth Winston, Sarah Williams, Catherine Allen, Susan King, Fanny Spraggin, and Mary Lanier; sons Lewis, William, and Willis; grandchildren: Elizabeth Perkins, Elizabeth Robinson, and Thomas King.
