[55770] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 13 February 2024: "Yarmouth - Ernest E. Beal, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, 2024, at the Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Yarmouth, with family at his side. He was born in Jonesport on July 14, 1932, a son of Ernest Wellington and Ava (Reed) Beal. After graduating from Jonesport High School, he met and married the love of his life, Leah A. Urquhart on June 27, 1952, and together they settled in Jonesport to raise their five children: Alton, Robert, Wayne, Larry and Charlotte, before moving to Ellsworth about eight years later. Ernie had lived in Ellsworth for 62 years before his move to Yarmouth. He worked many jobs over the years, but his favorite was his many years with the Gilltex Company for whom he sold clothing to retail stores throughout Maine. Ernie attended the Bible Baptist Church in Hancock for many years before relocating to Yarmouth. Ernie served the Lord for many years singing, not only in his home church, but in other churches and nursing homes in the Downeast as well. He loved to talk with people, tell jokes to make them laugh, and to put smiles on everyone's faces every day, anytime he could. Everyone loved Ernie as he made so many friends over the years in the greater Downeast area and beyond. He was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball, and was an absolute fan of the New York Yankees and their storied franchise history. He was a loving, devoted, and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who will be dearly missed. He leaves behind three sons; Robert Beal and wife Sheila, Wayne Beal, and Larry Beal, all of Ellsworth; his daughter Charlotte Morse and husband Steve of Franklin; his daughter-in-law Charleen Beal of Auburn; his grandchildren Ernie, who was named after him, Ashley, Tanya, Bridgette, Robbie, Nicki, Starr, Marsha, Jason, Jared and Caden; 18 great-grandchildren; his distant cousin, Hubene Brodie, of Ellsworth, who was like a sister to him; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Leah Beal, his son Alton E. Beal who passed away on January 23 of this year, and a brother Harlan Beal."

"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 1 June 2005: "Caribou - Mabel J. Bennett Leavitt, 92, died May 29, 2005, at Caribou. She was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Limestone the daughter of Clarence and Kate (Willey) Bennett. She was a graduate of Limestone High School as well as the Aroostook State Normal School. Mabel taught school in Limestone for a short time until her marriage to James E. Leavitt in 1934. She and Jim had five children during their farming years in Limestone and Caribou. She was a great cook and will be fondly remembered for her great bread, pies, cookies, cakes and baked beans. She helped on the family farm and raised her children until they started on their own life's path, after which she worked at FW Woolworth's in Caribou for 12 years. She was forced to retire due to age limitation at that time. She soon settled into being a homemaker again, taking up cross-stitching, embroidery and crocheting. Over the years, she made afghans for each member of her family. Mabel was a longtime member of the Caribou United Baptist Church and the Limestone Grange. She is survived by her five children, Sylvia Abbott of Anaheim, Calif., Jan Loomer of Henderson, Nev., David Leavitt and Diana Demerchant, both of Woodland and Kerry Leavitt of Anaheim, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Tim, Kim, Craig, Jimmy, Angela, David Jr., Michael, Christopher, Donny and Richie; eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Jasmine, Ryan, Janelle, Craig Jr., Janny, Shannon and Rebecca; two great-great-grandchildren, Isabel and Xavier. Mrs. Leavitt was predeceased by her husband of more than 68 years, Jim in 2002; two brothers, Roy and Harold Bennett; and two sisters, Alice Bennett Dozier and Flossie Bennett.
Interment will be in the Webster Cemetery."

Amadeus VIII was make a duke by the Emperor and added Piedmont to his lands. He retired to a hermitage on the Lake of Geneva when he styled himself Count of Geneva. Although a layman, in 1439 he was elected anti-pope Felix V by the remnants of the Council of Basel - never recognized by the whole western Church, he abdicated in 1449 and was at this time made a Cardinal. In 1401 he married Marie de Bourgogne (1380-1422) with whom he had nine children.
Wikipedia offers: "Amadeus VIII (September 4, 1383 - January 7, 1451) was the son of Amadeus VII, Count of Savoy and Bonne of Berry. He was surnamed the Peaceful and was the Count of Savoy from 1391 to 1416 and was elevated by Emperor Sigismund to the Duke of Savoy in 1416. Amadeus was also the antipope Felix V, elected by the Council of Basel-Ferrara-Florence, from November 1439 to April 1449. After the death of his father in 1391, his mother acted as a regent, because of his youth. In 1418 his distant cousin Louis of Savoy-Achaea, his brother-in-law, the last male of the elder branch of House of Savoy, died, leaving Amadeus as his heir-general, thus finally uniting the male-lines of the House of Savoy. He increased his dominions, encouraged several attempts to negotiate an end to the Hundred Years' War, and, after the death of his wife, retired from his position as Duke to become a hermit. Elected by the Council of Basel as an alternative Pope in opposition to Pope Eugene IV, Amadeus served as Felix V, regarded as an antipope, before stepping down to accept a Cardinal's hat instead. Amadeus' image in history is marred by the account of him as a pontiff concerned with money, to avoid disadvantaging his heirs, found in the 'Commentaries' of Pius II. Nor is there evidence that he intrigued to obtain the papal office, sending the bishops of Savoy to Basel for this purpose. (Note on numbering: When numbering of the Popes began to be used, Antipope Felix II was counted as one of the Popes of that name. The second true Pope Felix is thus known by the number III, and the true third Pope Felix was given the number IV. It also affected the name taken by Amadeus, who would have been the fourth Pope Felix.)"
In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SAVOY.htm offers: "The testament of 'Conte Amedeo di Savoia' dated 1 Oct 1391 names 'Amedeo di Lui figlio' as his heir 'sotto la tutela di detta Bourbon sua Madre col consiglio di detto Signore di Cossonay'. He succeeded his father in 1391 as Amedee VIII Comte de Savoie, under the regency of his paternal grandmother. Comte de Genève 1401, confirmed 1422 [1424]. Seigneur d'Orne, d'Echallens, de Montagny et de Bottens 1414. He was created Duke of Savoy by Sigmund King of Germany in 1417. Signore del Piemonte 1419. He abdicated 7 Nov 1434 and retired to château de Ripaille, near Thonon, Lake Geneva, where he founded an order of Knight-hermits of St Maurice and styled himself Comte de Genève. He was elected anti-pope Felix V 14 Dec 1439 by the remnants of the Council of Basel, enthroned at Basel 24 Jun 1440. Recognised by few, he retired to Lausanne 17 Nov 1442. Bishop of Geneva 1444. After the mediation of Charles VII King of France with Pope Nicholas V, Felix abdicated as Pope 7 Apr 1449. In compensation he was named Cardinal-Bishop of Sainte-Sabine 18 Jun 1449. The testament of 'Amedeo octavo Duca di Savoia' dated 6 Dec 1439 chooses his burial 'nel Monasterio d'Alta Comba', makes bequests to 'P. - m (contract Sluis, Zeeland 11 Nov 1386, Chalon-sur-Saône 30 Oct 1393, in person Arras May 1401) Marie de Bourgogne, daughter of Philippe II 'le Hardi' Duke of Burgundy [Valois] & his wife Marguerite III Ctss of Flanders (Dijon Sep 1386-Château de Thonon-les-Bains 2 Oct 1422, bur Abbaye de Hautecombe). The contract of marriage between 'Amedeo di Savoia figlio del Conte Amedeo' and 'Maria figlia di Filippo Duca di Borgogna' is dated 11 Nov 1386."
[33088] Ellen is daughter of Benjamin Seiders and Deborah Wisser. Ancestry.com offers: "Seider Name Meaning - South German and Jewish (Ashkenazic): occupational name for a silk merchant, from an agent derivative of German Seide silk, Middle High German side. South German: habitational name for someone from Seyde in Saxony or Seiderau in Bavaria."
