An unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2014 states Johann Peter is son of Hans Peter Gebhardt (1632-1698) and offers further ancestry. Ancestry.com ofers: "Gebhardt Name Meaning - German: from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements geb gift + hard hardy, brave, strong. A saint of this name was bishop of Constance around the end of the 10th century, and his popularity may have had an influence on the continued use of the personal name into the Middle Ages."

He is a legendary figure and is reported to have married Dareara, sister of Saint Patrick and daughter of Calphurnius (Calpinn), and Cynan's cousin.
