[17339] Shearjashub m. ca. 1673 Bathsheba Skiff (b. Sandwich 26 April 1648, d. there 13 May 1714, sister of the wife of Elisha Bourne). For information and children, see NEHGR 116:203-05, 210-14. Albert Douglass Hart, Jr. in "Our Folk", on the Web at http://www.aritek.com/hartgen/htm/bourne.htm, offers: "Shearjashub - was so named to express his father's wish - Isaiah 7:3 means - a remnant shall return (to carry on work). Successfully carried on his father's work among the Indians. In the 17th century, missionary Richard Bourne tried unsuccessfully to have the Plymouth Court record a deed confirming the title of the Wampanoag to land between what are now the Santuit and Childs rivers. He died in 1682 without achieving his goal. Three years later, his son, Shearjashub Bourne, succeeded where his father had failed. The court confirmed the title of the 'South Sea Indians,' as the Wampanoag were sometimes called, to the land and said none of it could be purchased by the English without the consent of all the Indians. Nine children - including Judge Meletiah Bourne who married Desire Howland the daughter of John Howland and Hope Tilley. Was often a representative of Plymouth Colony and the Province of Mass." See chart and information about Shearjashub and his family and descendants in "American Ancestors, Spring 2017," (Boston, MA, NEHGS), pp. 35 ff.

[31857] This line is from the unverified Moore Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2011. "Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900, Volume 19," p. 376 offers: "Forbes, Alexander, first Lord Forbes (d. 1448), was the eldest son of Sir John de Forbes of that ilk. The lands of Forbes in Aberdeenshire gave name to the family, who trace back their ancestors in it to the time of King William the Lion (1165-1214). Sir John de Forbes was justiciar and coroner for Aberdeenshire in the time of Robert III, and leaving four sons was the common ancestor of the families of the Lords Forbes, Forbes Lord Pitsligo, and the Forbeses of Tolquhoun, Foveran, Watertoun, Culloden, Brux, &c. The eldest son, Sir Alexander de Forbes, succeeded to the estates in 1405, on his father's death, and during his time both added considerably to their extent and obtained their consolidation into a barony, with his own elevation to the peerage as a baron of parliament. In 1407 he was one of four knights who went to England to hold a friendly tournament with an equal number of English knights. Wyntoun calls him a knight of Mar, and praises the worthy manner in which he and his comrades upheld the honour of their country on the field of chivalry. In 1419 he formed one of the contingent of Scottish knights who with their followers responded to the appeal of Charles, dauphin of France, to Scotland for help against the English. He took part in the war then going on, and was present at the battle of Beaugé, 22 March 1421. During the same year he visited James I in his captivity in London, and afterwards returned to Scotland, but came again into England as far as Durham in 1423, to convoy James I into his kingdom. Between 1436 and 1442 he was created by James II a lord of parliament, under the title of Baron Forbes. He died in 1448. He married about 1423 Lady Elizabeth Douglas, only daughter of George, first earl of Angus [q. v.], and granddaughter of Robert II. By her, who afterwards became the wife of David Hay of Yester, he left issue two sons and three daughters: (1) James, second lord Forbes, (2) John, provost of the church of St. Giles, Edinburgh, (3) Annabella, who married Patrick, master of Gray, (4) Margaret, who married the laird of Fyvie, and (5) Elizabeth, who married Irvine of Drum. Through his marriage to Elizabeth Douglas his children were heirs of entail to the earldom of Angus." Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Forbes,_1st_Lord_Forbes.

[6814] Adolphe is son of John A. Storey [name changed from Max Lievendag] and Wilhelmina Hartwig. Adolphe was an attorney; he and Joan r. (2010) E. Longmeadow, MA. Find A Grave Memorial 47432390 offers: "Adolphe (Dutch) Storey recently passed away. Most were unaware of Dutch's incredible life journey of transcendence over a childhood steeped in loss, abandonment, and daunting adversity. Dutch's parents died in successive years before he turned 10 years old. He was placed into an orphanage by his surviving aunt and other extended family members who violated a death bed promise to care for young Dutch. After multiple attempts at running away from an orphanage, and other substitute care settings, he finally succeeded at 14, hopping a freight train from New York to be with his sister in California, who took him in. Enduring yet another loss, his 22-year old sister succumbed within the year. Dutch returned to the East Coast and was again placed into substitute care. Throughout his schooling, he somehow managed to excel academically and yet was deprived opportunities to participate in extra curricular activities. Birthdays and Christmases were largely unknown affairs. However, instead of giving up and falling along the wayside of life, Dutch adapted and ultimately triumphed over the long odds against him, armed solely with fierce determination to make his parents proud. Dutch first answered our nation's call to arms in World War II by enlisting in the Air Force in 1943. He quickly made a mark with his outstanding physical fitness, razor sharp intelligence, 20-15 eyesight, and fearlessness. He distinguished himself as a boxer on the Air Force boxing team and became the youngest officer in the Air Force at the time. As a B-29 flight engineer, Dutch flew bombing missions over Germany. At the conclusion of the war, Dutch then set his sights on becoming a fighter pilot. He demonstrated that he had the 'right stuff' by earning the much coveted fighter wings. In 1948, Dutch was privileged to fly P-51 Mustangs, his favorite, along with F-80's, F84's, and F86's. In 1950, Dutch was deployed to Korea and flew a heavy schedule of combat missions the first year of the Korean War as a seasoned fighter pilot. Despite the hardening effects of war, Dutch was especially moved by the plight of Korean orphans and did what he could to relieve their sufferings during his down time in country. After returning Stateside, Dutch resigned from the Air Force, his only family at the time, to embark upon building a civilian life with his young bride. Dutch channeled his passion for flying fighters into full blown pursuit of a law degree. He fondly recalled his fascination with the language, genius, and logic of the law. From this point on he devoted the remainder of his life to the law. To make ends meet Dutch juggled outside jobs with studying. He never complained and never quit, just like the boxer he was, always driven by his burning resolve to make his parents proud. Dutch won numerous scholarships from some of the top law schools in the country, a plethora of academic honors, and other prestigious awards. An Honor student and champion debater, Dutch was nominated by faculty to a national conference at West Point to debate and discuss 'Communism and its Influence in the World' in 1953. In 1967 Dutch was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and has been practicing general law in Springfield and East Longmeadow ever since. He always put his family first and stressed to his children the importance of education, respect, clean living, compassion for the less fortunate, and, above all, God and country. Dutch's early life seared an uncompromising aversion to excuse making, waste and laziness, and a reverence for drive and perseverance. Those who were closest to Dutch loved his irreverent sense of humor, boyish smile, and hearty laugh. He told excellent jokes, and had a gift for a quick turn of a phrase. Dutch was a multifaceted man who epitomized the Greek ideals of mind, body, and spirit. In addition to his intellectual gifts, he embraced physical culture and spiritual pursuits. He was once scouted as Mr. America material while in the service. He was a lifelong member of the YMCA and area health clubs since 1955. Dutch loved to swim, jog, lift weights, pound the heavy bag, and was a fierce competitor on the handball and racquetball courts. Dutch also enjoyed playing golf, chess, motor cycling, and shooting his 45 service pistol at the range. Dutch remained a voracious reader until the end, devouring books on subjects as diverse as Philosophy, Middle East History, Economics, Politics, and Psychology. The night he passed away, such books were left open on his desk, capturing his attention only minutes before his passing, testaments to his insatiable thirst to learn more about the world and better himself. To his family who include his beloved wife Joan of 60 years, his five children, and two grandchildren, Dutch shall always remain an inspiration and a hero. He was, and is, greatly loved, and will always maintain a living presence in our hearts as we continue to cherish his memory."
