Crouse, 102, a resident of Marion many years ago, died Sunday in the Mann Rest Home in Westerville. She was the oldest resident of Franklin County. Her husband was A. G. Crouse, superintendent of Marion schools from 1885 to 1890. His death occurred in 1938 at the age of 85. A graduae of Otterbein College in 1872, Mrs. Crouse was a member of the Westerville Methodist Church 86 years. Her husband served as superintendent of schools at Findlay and Wauseon besides in Marion, then after leaving the education field he was associated 32 years with the Seagrave Corp. in Columbus. Surviving are five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Ethel and Glenn, and three brothers preceded her in death."

[39068] The Atlanta Constitution, 14 March 1931, p. 10: William Edgar Scruggs. 66, well known Atlanta and son of the late Colonel William Lindsay Scruggs, former envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to Venezuela, died early Friday morning at his home, 114 Melrose' avenue, Decatur, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will lie conducted in Spring Hill chapel, further arrangements to be announced by 11. M. Patterson & Son. Mr. Scruggs' father was envoy to Venezuela . . . He was the founder of the New Era, one of the earliest newspapers in Atlanta, and at one time was editor of the Columbus Enquirer-Sun. His mother was formerly Miss Judith Anne Potts, member of a prominent Virginia family. Mrs. Oscar Oldknow, a daughter, of Los Angeles, and William L. Scruggs, a son, of Kansas City, Mo., are coming to Atlanta by airplane to attend the services. Prior to his retirement 10 years ago because of failing health Mr. Scruggs served as southern field representative for the Sebring Pottery Company, of Sebring. Ohio. He was born and reared in Atlanta. Mr. Scruggs was a member of the Pioneer School Boys of Atlanta and of the West End Methodist church. He also was prominent in Masonic circles. Surviving are his widow, formerly Miss Lula Watson, of Roswell; another daughter, Mrs. Margaret Scruggs Mundy, of Atlanta: three other sons, J. Edgar. Ernest C. and Dr. Anderson M. Scruggs, all of Atlanta: two sisters. Miss Maud Judith Scruggs and Mrs. C. L. G. Anderson, both of Washington, D. C., and six grandchildren.
