West, 78, of 1106 Westgate Drive and formerly of 201 School House Hill Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994, in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born Oct. 19, 1915, in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Nora Stoner West. He was a plumber in the Public Works Department at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1976. A veteran of World War II, he served as a tank crewman in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church, Fayetteville; Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 Veterans of Foreign Wars; Landis-McCleaf Detachment of the Marine Corps League; Loyal Order of Moose 842; Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion; La Societe Des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevaux; and Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Company. Surviving are his wife, Harriet A. Piper West, whom he married Aug. 17, 1940; a son, Joel L. of Fayetteville; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Frances Heindel of Chambersburg and Reba Kohler of Menno Haven; a brother, Max H. of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road. The Rev. Dr. Robert D. Verno will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery with military graveside services by VFW Post 1599."
