He was a former lighthouse keeper, a veteran of World War 1, a member of the Methodist Church of West Tremont, and the American Legion, and Masonic Lodge, of Southwest Harbor. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Black of Bernard, and Mrs. Maxine Clark of Southwest Harbor; two sons, Perley, of Seal Cove, and Lyford, of Bass Harbor; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren."
