He was a former truck driver for Carlisle Tire and Rubber Co. and Mechanicsburg Navy Depot and a milk hauler for Karl Kennedy. An Army veteran of World War II who received the Purple Heart, he was a member of VFW Post No. 7463 in New Bloomfield, Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 50, Tressler Memorial Lutheran Church, American Association of Retired Persons, Landisburg Fire Company, Lan-disburg Ambulance Club and Blain Ambulance Club. Surviving are his wife, Iva B. Garlin; two daughters, Sara A. Rice of RD2 Loysville and Darlene S. Darr of Carlisle; a son, George A. Garlin of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Arthur Weitschat officiating. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery with full military honors."

Mary was a graduate of Ricker Classical Institute, worked at Gardiner Nursing Home for over 30 years and was a life member of the United Pentecostal Church in Houlton for over 50 years. She especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Carl Grant of Houlton; 4 children: Carl & Rona Grant of Bridgewater, Calvin & Gini Grant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Craig Grant of LaGrange, Kelley & Dave Nord of Azuza, CA; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 6 siblings: Gladys Keith, Claude Kenney, Sharon Pangburn, Gwen Dunn, Sandra Margison, Barbara Peters as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, and a granddaughter, Alana. A retired employee of Boeing Aircraft, he was an industrial and aerospace engineer who had also done engineering for General Dynamics, Chrysler Missle Division and McDonnell-Douglas. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, VFW Post 6253 of Berlin, N.J. and past grandmaster of Adams Lodge 319F&AM. Mr. Shughart is survived by three sons, William F. II of Oxford, Miss., Paul T. of Sasebo, Japan and Gregory D. of Clementon, N.J.; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. The Rev. Robert Knight will officiate at services. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery with military honors."
