[50090] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 18 June 1940, p. 21: "E. Adelbert Gray, 90, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Linwood Parsons, in Yeazie late Monday evening after nine weeks of ill health caused by a fall. He was born in Penobscot, a son of Justin and Mary Gray. For seventy years he made his home in Bar Harbor and for the past four years he had lived in Veazie. He was the oldest man in Bar Harbor and had the distinction of holding the Boston Post cane. He was a member of St John's Episcopal church of Bangor. A man of sterling character he was well known for his many deeds of kindness. Until his accident he was active for a man of his years and was enjoyed by the younger set as well as his older friends. He will be greatly missed by many associates. He is survived by two sons, Arthur and Irving Gray, both of Bar Harbor; five daughters, Mrs. Jennie Tyler of Randolph, Mass., Mrs. Lula Lurvey and Mrs. Margaret Engman, both of Bar Harbor; Mrs. Olive Martin of Sullivan and Mrs. Linwood E. Parsons of Veazie; two brothers, George and Alfred Gray and one sister, Mrs. Mary York all of Dedham."
