He d., presumably as a prisoner, before 29 July 1295 in France. Sub arcta custodia recludend[us] (Bé, Roles Gascons, vol. iii, nos. 2219, 2222, et passim; Rishanger, Chron., Rolls Ser., p. 149; Knighton, Chron., Rolls Ser., vol. i, pp. 344-45; Hemingburgh, Chron., ed. Hamilton, vol. ii, pp. 51-52). Cal. Fine Rolls, vol. i, pp. 355, 359-60. The King refers, 21 Sep., to "the laudable service rendered to him in Gascony by Ralph ... [who] died in his service there" (Cal. Close Rolls, 1288-86, p. 432). Ralph's executors stated soon afterwards that he had died in Gascony on the Friday in Pentecost week [27 May] and that the news of his death reached England at the quinzaine of St John [8 July] [abstract of an ancient petition (SC 8/75/3747) in the National Archives online catalogue (http://www.catalogue.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.asp)].

[14893] Findlay is listed as a pioneer settler of Penobscot, Hancock Co., ME - see http://history.rays-place.com/me/penobscot-me.htm. Findlay was a Loyalist and moved to Canada and owned Malcolm Mills at Oakland, Ontario. A Finlay Malcolm [sic] is listed in "The Artificers and Inhabitants Who Built Fort George, Penobscot, 1779-1780" in "The Maine Genealogist" magazine (Vol. 26, p. 60; 2004) as serving as a laborer in 1779. See the notes for his father, Duncan Malcolm. Vince Alexander posted in 2001 on Ancestry.com: "Finlay Malcolm was a sea captain. He owned a trading vessel that plied between Scotland and America. Finlay set out for himself early in life as he is recorded in 1769 at Penobscot, now Castine, Maine, as an early settler on the northern bay, "Majobigwaduce." He is recorded in his Majesty's service at Fort George during the seige by the Continentals in 1779. About 1769, Finlay and his brother John were settlers of Northern Bay. He was also a member of the Penobscot Association Grant, at St. Andrew's, in 1784. Finlay was a United Empire Loyalist and received a grant of land for his adherence to the King during the American Revolution. At Castine, Maine, Finlay met and married Tryphena Wardwell. She was the daughter of Captain Daniel Wardwell of York, Me. Tryphena was born in 1761 at York, Me. and died in Oakland Township, Oxford (now Brant) County, Ontario, on Jan. 16, 1813. She was buried in the old Oakland cemetary. In 1798, Finlay with his wife, Tryphena, and their family moved to Upper Canada. Before leaving Penobscot, Me., the records show that he sold out his real estate holdings amounting to several hundred acres." See "Oakland Township: Two Hundred Years," Vol. 4, part 2, p. 1125.

Michael was born May 3, 1961 in Bar Harbor, Maine. Michael was the youngest child of Preston and Doreen Strout. Michael is survived by his mother Doreen, brother Raymond in Milbridge, sisters Gail and her husband Vernon Scott, Sandi and her husband Robert Look both of Columbia Falls. Michael graduated from Narraguagus High School and has worked as a lobster fisherman for the past 34 years. His nicknames were 'Strouty' and 'Big Bird' and he will always be known for his large curly hair, his wild spirit, and his warm heart. Michael was a loving and proud father and is survived by his two sons, John Michael Nadeau and wife Carolyn, and Zane Marshall Strout. Michael was predeceased by his father Pep. There wil be a graveside service in his memory on October 18th @ 2:00 p.m. at the Rock Maple Cemetary in Harrington at the family site next to his father."
