He was referred to as "3d" and "Jr." to distinguish him from his uncle and cousin with the same name. He married Huldah Norton on 2 Mar. 1780 in Edgartown, Dukes Co., MA. They had 7 children, all baptized at Christ Church, Edgartown. In addition to the three linked below, there were: Mary Coffin (1783-1788); William Coffin (1794-1850), m. Sarah Mayhew; Henry Coffin (1795-1833); and Cordelia A. Coffin (1801-1866), m. Bartlett Allen. Enoch and his family lived in Kennebec Co., ME, for several years. He died of yellow fever "on passage from West Indies" (VR Edgartown to 1850). He was 43 years old, and left behind 6 children, all minors (though the oldest, Ann/Nancy, was married by the time of his death)."

She was a proud graduate of the 'Old' Machias High School class of 1954, and was a Loyal Machias Bulldogs fan. She really enjoyed being in charge of the Machias Bulldog summer training facility for 25 years at 11 Broadway where she and her late husband 'Gebo' provided the kids of the neighborhood a place to play basketball, go swimming in their pool, and cookouts on the grill. They enjoyed seeing kids happy, and they always succeeded in doing that with the hundreds of kids who came over and enjoyed themselves through the years. She was a longtime worker at Helen's restaurant and she loved her job and coworkers, and the people she met working there. She also enjoyed the Anah Shrine events she attended with her husband 'Gebo' and the many friends they made. She is survived by her sons, Richard Mallar of Orlando, FL, Roland Mallar of Pinehurst, NC, John Gooch of Manchester, NH, and Michael Gooch of Whiting, ME; 3 grandsons, Jason Mallar, Joseph Gooch, and Breckin Gooch; 3 great-grandsons, Julian, Riley, and Vinnie; siblings, Jane Jordan and husband, Richard, of New Britian, CT, Thursa Phillips of Westbrook, ME, Eleanor Grant of Calais, Rowena Julian and husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach, VA, Martha Dean and husband, Charles of Hampden, ME; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerrold "Gebo" Gooch; a son, Robert Mallar; and a brother, Clifton."

Francis Newcomb, the ancestor of a numerous family in America, b. in England about 1605, came to New England, April, 1635, at age of 30, with wife Rachel, aged 20, dau. Rachel, aged 2 1/2 years, and son John, aged 9 months; lived in Boston, Mass., about 3 years, when he settled at Mt. Wollaston, afterward called Braintree,* and in that part now Quincy, Norfolk Co., Mass., where he d. Mar 27, 1692, his gravestone in Braintree says, "aged 100 years," the town records, "accounted 100 Years old;" his age was doubtless about 87. He came to New England in the ship Planter, a list of whose 107 passengers is on file at the Rolls Office, Chancery Lane, London, England, headed as follows: Vjth Aprilis 1635, Theis p'ties heerevnder mencioned are to be transported to New England; imbarqued in the Planter, Nic Trarice Mr bound thether; they have brought Certificates from the Justices of Peace & Ministers of ye p'ish that they are conformable to the orders of ye Church of England & are no Subsidy men; they have taken the oath of Supremacie of Allegeance Die et ano pred.

Mr. Newcomb embarked at London; it is highly probable he came from St. Albans, in Hertfordshire, as many of the passengers were from that place, which is but a few miles north of London. There are 3 parishes in St. Albans; in one the records extend back only to 1643; in another they have been examined between dates 1591 and 1640 without finding an entry in the name of Newcomb; in the 3d, where Mr. N. was probably baptized (if born in that vicinity), the records, with the chh. were destroyed by fire in 1743. There is a tradition that he came from Oxfordshire, ans was of pure Saxon blood. Mr. N. owned several tracts of land in Braintree, as appears by record, a part being near the iron works, and another tract on S. side of Monatiquot River; it is highly probable he lived at Quincy Point or the "Neck;" no will or settlement of his estate upon record. In the records of First chh. Boston, under Admissions, is the following: "The 28th of ye 12th or last month 1635 Rachaell Newcombe ye wife of one Francis Newcombe." Again: "the 16th of ye 12th month 1639" a committee was chosen to enquire after the spiritual state of 11 persons in Braintree, and among the number was "Rachell ye wife of Francis Newcomb." Mrs. N. was received in chh. at Braintree from Boston, 5 (1) 1684-5; no record of her death. The following is a fac-simile of Mr. N.'s autograph as witness to a deed given by Peter Nash to John Mansfield, July 26, 1662; it will be noticed he wrote name ffransis nucom.

o Judith, b. 16 (11) 1645, in Braintree.

[51732] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth,Maine], 22 February 2017": "Brooksville - Leona Sylvester Gray, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Feb. 15, 2017, after a courageous battle with dementia. Leona was born on Nov. 9, 1947, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She was the eldest daughter of the late Paul E. and Helen H. Sylvester. Leona grew up in South Blue Hill helping with her familys egg business and spending cherished time with her dear grandparents Leon and Prudence Sylvester. She graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1965 and attended Northern Maine Vocational School, where she obtained her license as an LPN. She worked at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and later as a dental assistant at a local dentists office. She eventually worked alongside her husband, John, as the bookkeeper for their family business. She was married to John Hunnewell Gray on Aug. 16, 1969. Leona was a truly devoted wife and mother who made sure her three children received college degrees from the schools of their choice. At the same time, she decided to return to school herself and achieved her associate degree in library science from the University of Maine at Augusta in 2000. She served on the Brooksville School Board for three years, volunteered at the Brooksville Elementary School library, and was very active in the Brooksville United Methodist Church for many years. With her library science degree, Leona became the head librarian at the Brooksville Free Public Library, where she enjoyed meeting and talking with all sorts of people, but she especially enjoyed working with children and sharing her love of reading with them. She was never so happy as when she was reading to the children of the community during story time, particularly when reading one of her favorite childrens books, 'Miss Rumphius,' written by Barbara Cooney. Sadly, it was during this time when the early signs of dementia began to set in and she withdrew from her very active life. Leona is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, John H. Gray; her three children, Lydia Garrant and husband, Steve, of Mont Vernon, N.H., Gerald Gray and wife, Rebecca, of Brooksville, and Liza Saturley and husband, Galen, of Fairfield, Iowa; her six beloved grandchildren, Lily, Alex, John 'Jack,' Tony, Gray, and Leo; her three sisters, Linda Sylvester of Vero Beach, Fla., Louise Holyoke and husband, Billy, of Orrington, Laverne Redding and husband, Dana, of Calais; her sister-in-law Jane Bowden and husband, Bob, of Pleasant Ridge Plantation; her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends."
