Born April 14, 1920 in Perry County, he was the son of the late Seager Clay and Florence (Dunkelberger) Willhide and the widower of Romayne M. (Hollinger) Willhide. A 1940 graduate of Carlisle High School, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was the owner of Dean's Grocery Store in Carlisle for 10 years and co-owner of Village Food Market in Carlisle for 25 years with his late brother, Lane Willhide. He was a life member of VFW Post 4077 and Carlisle Fish & Game Association; a 50-year member of Cumberland Star Lodge 197; and a member of St. John's Council No. 5, St. John's Royal Arch Chapter 171, St. John's Commandery No. 7 and Carlisle American Legion, Post 101. Surviving are a son, Eric Dean Willhide, New Cumberland; a daughter, Virginia L. Guernsey and husband Gil, Carlisle; a brother, Banks F. Willhide, Carlisle; two sisters, Robie M. Willhide and Donna McKain and husband Jack Bushey, Carlisle; a grandson, Harlan M. Guernsey, Carlisle; and four granddaughters, Heidi M. Knutelsky, State College, Hope M. Guernsey, Carlisle, Holly M. Ricciardi, Drexel Hill and Heather M. Gossert, Shippensburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lane Z. Willhide, and a great-grandson, Aaron Knutelsky."
