[28461] The Leavitt Family Tree on Ancestry.com states that Nicholas is son of Henry Butler (b. 1564 in Chipping, Wycombe, Berkshire) and Isabel Tempest (b. 1566), and that Henry is son of Nicholas Butler ( b. 1539, of Rochester, Hale, Buckinghamshire) and Ann Clifton (b. 1541, of Rochester). See "Pioneers of Massachusetts - 1620-1650," Charles Henry Pope (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2013), p. 84. Ancestry.com offers: "Butler Name Meaning - English and Irish: from a word that originally denoted a wine steward, usually the chief servant of a medieval household, from Norman French butuiller (Old French bouteillier, Latin buticularius, from buticula 'bottle'). In the large households of royalty and the most powerful nobility, the title came to denote an officer of high rank and responsibility, only nominally concerned with the supply of wine, if at all. Anglicized form of French Boutilier."
