[200] Hazel taught a year at The University of Akron and then joined the Akron Public Schools as an art teacher, retiring in 1955. Hazel also did a lot of murals for peoples houses. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Cleveland (1912), studied at the Cleveland School of Art and then the Akron Institute of Art (1919). She did some nursing during World War I in Ohio. She m. (2) 10 June 1950 Daniel W. Converse (b. 12 Oct 1885 at Plain City, OH, d. 19 May 1972 at Akron, OH), an engineer. She was an officer in the Akron Colony of the Ohio Society of Mayflower Descendants. "The Akron Beacon Journal [Akron, Ohio], 20 April 1983": "Julia Hazel Converse, 90, widow of Daniel W. Converse, well-known engineer of Akron, passed away April 17 in Akron. Mrs. Converse was born in Maine before moving to Akron. She was a graduate of the Akron Art Institute in 1919. She taught many years in the Akron Public Schools and at the Goodrich School with the handicapped. Her first teaching experience was with the University of Akron. She was a member of the Akron Women's Art League, Descendants of the Mayflower, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Women's Auxiliary of the Professional Engineers of Akron. She organized a scholastic fund for student engineers at Akron University. She was an active worker in these organizations and was a presiding officer in each one. She is survived by son, Mr. Jay K. Andrews of Tallmadge; and several grandchildren. Cremation has taken place."

Charlotte grew up in Dyer Brook, Maine, on a potato farm and graduated from Island Falls High School in 1962. She attended Farmington State College and graduated with a B.S. degree in home economics education. She taught first grade for 25 years and also dabbled in teaching grades 3rd, 4th, and 6th. After her two daughters went to college in 1996, Charlotte earned her master's degree in guidance education from the University of Maine. Charlotte spent many years as a School Counselor at Katahdin Middle/High School and Southern Aroostook Community School. She spent 43 years in public education serving students and families in rural Maine. After retiring, Charlotte decided she had enough and worked 11 more years as a TRIO talent search advisor at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She worked a total of 54 years in education! Charlotte raised two beautiful daughters in The County and had many cherished fur babies over the years. Charlotte also found her decade's long support of high school sports and local students' continuing education very rewarding. Her charitable interests included the Houlton Humane Society and the local scholarship program. Charlotte donated a great deal of effort and time to the local scholarship program to help seniors afford college. She helped in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the scholarship fund. In retirement, Charlotte filled her time with family gatherings, reading, fishing, bingo, high school basketball, cribbage tournaments and playing cards with friends and family. She was a steadfast fan of the Red Sox and New England Patriots. She was companioned by her two cherished cats, Herbert and Gertrude. Charlotte is survived by her siblings, Betty McGraw, Melvin Morrison and his wife, Karen; her two devoted daughters, Rebecca Settlemyre and Jannie Durr, and their partners, Lee Settlemyre and Paul Abbott. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews: Chip and Jeanne Cameron and their daughter, Crystal, and grandchild, William, their son, Mike Casey, his wife, Amanda, their son, Dylan and his partner, Chiew Ig, and their daughter, Briana and her partner, Darren, Wayne and Colleen Cameron and their son, Caleb, Terri Cameron, Mike and Diane Cameron, Holly and Chuck Hogan and their daughters, Abigail and Lauren, Kirby McGraw and his wife, Kamila Abeldinova, daughter of Melvin, Karen Morrison, and Shanna and her husband, Evan Duffy. Charlotte was predeceased by Sonny and Judy Cameron; Glenn Chester McGraw; and Ted and Arlene Friel. She is also fondly remembered by her dear friends, Elaine Small and Reni Qualey.
