Sancho married (1) a daughter of Gelindus, Count of Aragon, and (2) Toda of Aragon, daughter of Azuarius{ref.Carr P. Collins, Jr., "Royal Ancestors..."}. He added the county of Aragon to his Basque kingdom of Navarre {-Encycl.Brit., 1956 Ed., 21:117}. Sancho reigned 905-926. "Meyers Konversations-lexikon" (1890) states: "The oldest known inhabitants of Navarre were the Vascones, descendants of the old Iberians. ...The inhabitants of Navarre used the dissension within the Franconian Empire to gain their independence and chose Sancho Garcia as their Count, who conquered Pamplona and the area on the Aragon and gave himself the name King of Navarre in 905."
An alternate ancestry is proposed by Bryant Smith Austin (skip1@netcom.com) 12/98 based on recent research by Spanish genealogists (not verified by AEM): Sancho is son of Garcia Jimenez of Najerra (#24522 in my database) who m. (1) Dadildis of Pallars (mother of Sancho) and (2) Onneca "Rebelde de Sanguesa" - see elsewhere in this database for further proposed family. [57805] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 14 October 2024: "Thousand Oaks, CA - Charles Peter Norris, known to many as 'Pete,' passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024. Born the eldest of four boys after four girls to Charlie and Ruth Norris of Dixfield, Maine, Pete grew up surrounded by a large family. Coming from such a big family made him a friend to many and the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger. His siblings affectionately teased him as the 'golden child,' a playful nod to his status as the first boy after four girls. An avid outdoorsman, Pete developed a lifelong love for nature early on, following in his father's footsteps. He was an Eagle Scout, achieving the highest rank in the Boy Scouts, a testament to his leadership and dedication. While Pete was known for his athletic talents, particularly in football, he also broke the 'jock' stereotype by joining the choir in the local church. His passion for music continued as he later performed with a Barbershop Quartet. Pete excelled as a punter in high school football, the only left-footed punter among the four Norris brothers. His three younger brothers also played the position but kicked with their right foot. Since the Norris brothers were each four years apart, there was a 16-year stretch during which a Norris boy held the punter position on the Dixfield team, leading a local newspaper to humorously ask, 'When is that Norris boy graduating, anyway?' Pete attended the University of Maine at Orono (UMO), where he played football and was part of the celebrated 1965 Tangerine Bowl team. His talent as a punter earned him recognition and respect, and his time at UMO gifted him with lifelong friendships, especially with Jerry Perkins and Steve Crichton. He was also a proud member of the Phi Eta Kappa fraternity, finding camaraderie and brotherhood there. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Bbology from UMO in 1968, Pete's career took many turns. He began as a biology teacher and football coach at Rockland High School before transitioning to sales with New England Telephone in Aroostook County. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate two sporting camps, including Red River Camps in the Allagash and Nicatous Lodge in central Maine. He also worked in fundraising for UMO's Athletic Department and remained a sustaining member of the prestigious M Club. Throughout his life, Pete held roles in real estate and insurance and was a member of the Rotary Club. He became a Freemason as a young man, and remained in good standing with the organization throughout his life. In 1972 while visiting Maine on vacation with Pete's sister, Betsy, Christina, who was from California, met Pete. Mesmerized by Christina's long golden hair and her loud, infectious laugh, Pete quickly fell in love. Shortly after, Pete called her, urging her to return to Maine and give their relationship a chance. They married on October 14, 1972, just months after meeting. Their love endured for nearly 52 years, soulmates for eternity. Together, they built a life full of shared adventures, strong friendships, and deep love for their children, Laura and Chuck. In 2021 after Pete received his Alzheimer's diagnosis, he and Christina relocated to California to be near their daughter, Laura, and her husband, Darius Raulinaitis. Their son, Chuck, who had been living in Maui also reunited with the family in California to support his parents during this challenging time. The family established a close-knit community, living near one another and leading interlocking lives filled with shared experiences. Chuck was devoted to his parents and even began working on a screenplay loosely based on Pete's life. During this time, Pete, Christina, and Chuck joined the Elks Lodge, further deepening their connections within the community. To provide comfort to Pete in his last years, they welcomed a Cavachon named Charlie, who remained a loyal companion until his final breath. Despite the challenges of his illness, Pete's love for the outdoors never waned. He had hand-built log cabins at Duck Lake and Nicatous Lake and split countless cords of wood over the years. A Registered Maine Guide and former President of the Sporting Camps Association, Pete had a passion for snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and waterskiing. He was known for his ability to tell a good tall tale - whether by a firepit, in the dining room at Nicatous, or to anyone who would listen. He loved nature deeply, and his passion extended to gardening, feeding the birds, and marveling at wildlife. He developed a special connection with a bluebird daily at his home that nearly ate from his hand and showed him great interest. The Bluebird has become a symbol to the family of Pete, just like the monarch butterfly is the family's symbol of his mother, Ruth. Throughout his lifetime, Pete enjoyed a good party with a wide smile and a shot of Jim Beam or two. Known for his warm personality, he often said, 'I never met a stranger,' and he lived his life proving it. His sense of humor, strong work ethic, and love for his family and the state of Maine will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Christina; his children, Laura and Chuck; his sisters, Kate, Sue and Charlene; brothers, Jim and Steve; his aunt, Jinny; cousins, Brenda, Bill, and Tom (and many, many other Stevens cousins); and dear friends, Dean and Trudy Fogg."
