Adams, 75, of High Street passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta. She was born in Presque Isle on May 10, 1933, a daughter of Elbert Ireland and Effie Roberts Ireland. Joan attended schools in Mapleton. She had been employed for 39 years at New England Tel & Tel in Presque Isle, Augusta and Lewiston. She was a communicant of St. Michael Parish at St. Joseph Church in Gardiner. She was predeceased by three sisters, Genevieve Ferran, Rita Richardson and Lorraine Reynolds; and four brothers, Elbert Ireland Jr., Holman Ireland, Richard Ireland and Roger Ireland. She is survived by her husband, John Q. Adams, of West Gardiner; a stepdaughter, Dianne Sargent, of Freeport; four grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah DeLong, of Bangor, and Dorothy Rosa, of Concord, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins."
[46129] "The Ellsworth American, 28 March 2002": "George C. McKay Jr., 80, died March 25, 2002, at MDI Hospital. He was born July 19, 1921, in Bar Harbor, the son of George C. and Ethel (Thomas) McKay Sr. He graduated from Bar Harbor High School and attended Boston University. George served in the Army Air Corps as 1st Lt. from 1942-1945. He was a member of the Bar Harbor Masonic Lodge No. 185. George worked at the Criterion Theatre, at Hinckleys Boat Yard after the war, and as an independent photographer until moving to The Jackson Laboratory. He was head of the photo department at Jackson Laboratory and owned and operated McKay Cottages from 1970-1987. George was an outdoorsman who especially enjoyed bird hunting and sailing. He is survived by his son, George McKay III of Mount Desert; a daughter, Catherine and her husband, Michael James of Bar Harbor; a brother-in-law, Donald Higgins and wife, Betty of Ellsworth; a sister, Dr. Marguerite Dwyer of Bangor; two grandchildren, Christopher James and wife, Amy of Bar Harbor and Thomas James and fiancée, Susan McLaughlin of Northeast Harbor; one niece, three nephews, and several cousins. He will be sorely missed by his special friends, Abbe and Bagheera."

'Otto . . . Romanorum imperator augustus' confirmed the rights of 'monasterio super fluvium Mose' founded by 'Gotefridi comitis nostrique fidelis . . . et coniux sua pro anime sui fratris Alberonis' by charter dated 6 Apr 997. Graf im Bidgau 959. 'Bovo cum coniuge mea Engila' donated property 'ex hereditate paterna . . . in villa Dundeva in comitatu Bedense cui Godefridus comes preesse dinoscitur' to St Maximin at Trier by charter dated 1 Nov 959. Comte de Verdun 963-985. Richer records that 'Belgicæ dux Theodericus, necnon et vir nobilis ac strenuous Godefridus, Sigefridus quoque vir illustris, Bardo etiam et Gozilo fratres clarissimi et nominatissimi' captured Verdun in 985. He helped defend Verdun against Lothaire King of the West Franks in [984/85], but was captured together with Siegfried Comte de Luxembourg. He remained imprisoned for more than 10 years. The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines records that 'comes Raginerus' captured 'Montem castri' from 'comiti Godefrido' in 998 which, if the text refers to this Godefroi, suggests a later date of death (assuming the dating of Alberic is accurate).

[et] Godefridus comes et coniux sua Mathildis pro anima sui fratris Adalberonis archiepiscopi' by charter dated 1023. The necrology of Liège Saint-Lambert records the death 'VIII Kal Jun' of 'Mathildis comitisse'."
