Ancestry.com offers: "Abbott Name Meaning - English and Scottish: from Middle English abbott 'abbot' (Old English abbod) or Old French abet 'priest'. Both the Old English and the Old French term are derived from Late Latin abbas 'priest' (genitive abbatis), from Greek abbas, from Aramaic aba 'father'. This was an occupational name for someone employed in the household of or on the lands of an abbot, and perhaps also a nickname for a sanctimonious person thought to resemble an abbot. In the U.S. this name is also sometimes a translation of a cognate or equivalent European name, e.g. Italian Abate, Spanish Abad, or German Abt."

[54648] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 29 August 2023: "Sedgwick - Madeline Gray Clement passed away Aug. 7, 2023, at the age of 90, following a short stay at Winterberry Heights Assisted Living in Bangor. She was born in West Sedgwick on June 6, 1933, in the home of her parents, Walter Augustus Clement and Helen (Gray) Clement. She attended the one-room school in West Sedgwick and graduated from George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. She received a B.S. from Gorham State Teachers College and a Masters in Education from the University of Maine Orono. She taught in the Bangor and Orono school systems, college level summer courses at UMO Augusta, and at Teachers College in Truro, Canada. Madeline progressed in the field of education becoming State of Maine Curriculum Coordinator presenting many workshops throughout Maine in the field of curriculum development. She belonged to many education-related associations. Following her retirement, she became education consultant for the Hermon and Glenburn schools and served as coordinator of the Hancock County Administrators' Support System. After retiring, she returned to her beloved family home in Sedgwick. She created a warm and welcoming home where she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Her nieces and nephews have many wonderful memories of time spent there. Madeline had many interests and excelled in all of them. As a creative person, she enjoyed all forms of arts and crafts, painting, pastels, stained glass work, knitting, sewing, crewel embroidery, and making greeting cards. She loved to travel and did so extensively. Madeline was very independent and had a determined mind. She was steadfast in her intention to remain in her home, and she did that until the day before her 90th birthday in June. Failing health resulted in a hospital stay and then to assisted living at Winterberry Heights in Bangor. All the while, her mind was clear and resolute, and family members were able to have conversations and tell her how much she has meant to them. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted sister Virginia (Clement) Guyette and a special aunt Fona (Gray) Snow. Madeline was very close to and involved in the lives of Virginia's children. She spent as many holidays, birthdays, and other special family events as possible with the Guyette brood. She was the much-loved Auntie to four nephews and two nieces. She will be greatly missed by Walter Guyette and wife Janis, Clement Guyette and wife Susan, Michael Guyette and wife Marinka, Virginia Lea (Guyette) Pinkham and husband Mike, Timothy Guyette and wife Kimberly, and Fona (Guyette) York. She is also survived by great-nieces, great-nephews, and many relatives from the family of her cousin Albert Snow Sr. She leaves behind Robert Weatherbee, her longtime dear friend and life partner."
[52239] Henry is son of Thomas Foster (1783-1874) & Mercy Stevens (1773-1842; m. 7 November 1808).
