[6982] Maria, aka Marie of Antioch, ruled in the name of her son, Alexius II (1180-84). She became a nun under the name Xene. Her husband's cousin, Andronicus, overthrew Marie and Alexius II and instituted a reign of total terror which ended in his execution by the outraged populace of Constantinople (which proclaimed Isaac Angelus Emperor). Thus ended the Comneni dynasty. Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_of_Antioch.
