Born March 19, 1923, in Shelby, he was the son of Frank C. and Frances Jenner Briner. A 1941 graduate of Shelby High School, he was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy aboard the USS Willmarth D.E. 638 in the South Pacific receiving 3 Bronze Stars. He retired as a supervisor from Columbia Gas of Ohio and was a member of the VFW Post 7651 where he served as past Commander, AMVETS Post 26, American Legion Post 16 and the Leiderkranz. Mr. Briner was an original member of the Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in starting the football program at Ontario High School and also instrumental in securing the site and building for the VFW Post 7651 in Ontario. He enjoyed golfing and fishing with his son, Tom and traveling with his family. He was also a member of the Ontario Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Lorie Rose of Mt. Vernon; a son, Tom Melanie Briner of Ontario; grandchildren, Dawn Hoffman of Mansfield, Adam Ramey of Mt. Vernon, Brittani Briner of Reynoldsburg, Charlie Tiffany Brinegar of Maryland and Rachel Brinegar of Mansfield; two great grandchildren, Joseph Schoonover of Mansfield, Derrian Ramey of Mansfield and Cael Brinegar of Maryland; a sister, Mary Lawrence Biglin of Shelby; a brother, Raymond Briner of Crestline; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Danals Briner."

Ephraim Dorman was born about the year 1645, his age being estimated as about thirty in 1675. The surname of his wife Mary, whom he married before 1677, had not been discovered. She died in Topsfield November 14, 1705. . . . He served Topsfield in many capacities . . ." constable, selectman, town clerk, trial juror, Representative to the General Court, grand juror, moderator of the town meeting, tythingman, sergeant and then lieutenant of the train-band. His will was made 23 July 1720 and proved 18 Sept 1721, leaving to son Jacob a meadow and eight acres of adjoining upland.

He married first to Sarah Horswell, who died Dec. 18, 1719. Sarah was the daug. of Peter and Elizabeth Horswell. John and Sarah had one daug. Elizabeth, born Jan. 5 1717 she married Richard Sission on Nov. 15, 1739. John married next on Dec. 29, 1719, Joanna Wilbor. Joanna was born Jun. 6, 1700 and was the daug. of Samuel Wilbore and Mary Potter. John's will is dated June 17, 1762 and was proved July. 12, 1762. He mentioned all his children but Samuel in his will, which was witnessed by William Taylor, and Daniel Wilbor (his son Job's father-in-law). Children of John and Joanna are: 1. Job, b. Sept. 6, 1720 in LC, d. 1787 in Charlestown; 2. David, b. Mar. 31, 1722, d. 1780; 3. Phebe, b. Aug. 26, 1723 in LC, m. John Irish; 4. John, b. Jul. 24, 1725 in LC, Jemima Grinnell; 5. Margaret, b.
