[40158] See notes for husband William Cooper. Ancestry.com offers: "Porter Name Meaning - English and Scottish: occupational name for the gatekeeper of a walled town or city, or the doorkeeper of a great house, castle, or monastery, from Middle English porter 'doorkeeper', 'gatekeeper' (Old French portier). The office often came with accommodation, lands, and other privileges for the bearer, and in some cases was hereditary, especially in the case of a royal castle. As an American surname, this has absorbed cognates and equivalents in other European languages, for example German Pförtner (see Fortner) and North German Poertner. English: occupational name for a man who carried loads for a living, especially one who used his own muscle power rather than a beast of burden or a wheeled vehicle. This sense is from Old French porteo(u)r (Late Latin portator, from portare 'to carry or convey'). Dutch: occupational name from Middle Dutch portere 'doorkeeper'. Compare 1. Dutch: status name for a freeman (burgher) of a seaport, Middle Dutch portere, modern Dutch poorter."

"From Stackpoles History of Durham: Ezekiel Willey (descended from Thomas, Stephen, Thomas) born 1724, was a soldier in 1758 age 34, and in the company of Capt. Winborn Adams in 1775, age 51. Carpenter by trade. He married Mary ____. He was of Barrington, NH in 1750-62 Mary baptized in Dover 3 Oct 1752. Isaiah baptized Dover 3 Oct 1752.
Ezekiel Willey I was born in 1724, according to two military records from the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War (Source: Hammond, Isaac W., complier and editor, The State of New Hampshire Rolls of the Soldiers in the Revolutionary War, 1775, to May, 1777, Concord, N. H.: Parsons B. Cogswell State Printer, 1885, pp. 19-23, 107-108, 124, 187-188, https://archive.org/stream/provincialstatep1885newh#page/n0/mode/2up).
Ezekiel Willey was the son of Frances and Thomas Willey of Dover, NH, and the husband of Mary Rowe. His occupations from military records were husbandsman and carpenter. The last known census record of Ezekiel was the 1790 US Census of Northfield, Rockingham Co., NH, p. 206. I gave the death date as 1795 as an average between 1790 and 1800 and assumed he stayed with his two older sons in Northfield, NH, until he died. Known children: Ezekiel II (husband of Patty Glover), Isaiah Willey (husband of Sarah Daniels), Mary "Molly" (wife of Daniel Buzzell), Johannah (probably the wife of John Glover of Canterbury, NH), and John (husband of Elizabeth Bickford)."
