[32122] Vivian Myers Harig offers: " Ella made three trips by covered wagon to Ohio from Bethlehem, PA". Barb [Harig Fackler] found some very old papers from the 1850's. She found a paper that documents that John Harris came from Nazareth, PA. He died in 1857. His son, Daniel Harrier, moved to the Loyal Oak area near us. His daughter, Ella Harrier, married Dr. Austin T. Woods. He was a country medical doctor in Loyal Oak. They had one child that lived. She was Blanche Woods Shriber (married to B. A. Shriber). We heard the stories that Ella Harrier came to Ohio in a covered wagon several times. She brought her sister's babies (they had been orphaned) in the cradle that I have stored in the cottage. My children used that cradle too. Jack has her pistol with several notches on it. She had to be a tough gal."

[58795] Caleb is son of Isaac Marston (1648-1700) & Elizabeth Brown (1645-1689; m. 23 December 1669 in Hampton, Rockingham Co., NH).
[35441] This person is from the unverified Purdom Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2013 which states Richard m. in Breadsall, England 10 June 1604 Mary Marledge (b. ca. 1584) and that Richard is son of William Porter (b. ca. 1550). Documentation is needed. Ancestry.com offers: "Porter Name Meaning - English and Scottish: occupational name for the gatekeeper of a walled town or city, or the doorkeeper of a great house, castle, or monastery, from Middle English porter 'doorkeeper', 'gatekeeper' (Old French portier). The office often came with accommodation, lands, and other privileges for the bearer, and in some cases was hereditary, especially in the case of a royal castle. As an American surname, this has absorbed cognates and equivalents in other European languages, for example German Pförtner (see Fortner) and North German Poertner. English: occupational name for a man who carried loads for a living, especially one who used his own muscle power rather than a beast of burden or a wheeled vehicle. This sense is from Old French porteo(u)r (Late Latin portator, from portare 'to carry or convey'). Dutch: occupational name from Middle Dutch portere 'doorkeeper'. Compare 1. Dutch: status name for a freeman (burgher) of a seaport, Middle Dutch portere, modern Dutch poorter."
[14636] Horace graduated in 1869 from Grinnell College. He was business manager of the college from 1887 until his retirement in 1905, and was very active in municipal affairs. He served on the city council for several terms and was instrumental in the building of the city water works. Horace was son of Alden B. Robbins, a member of the famed "Iowa Band" that started the college. Horace was pastor of the Congregational Church at Postville, IA from '78 to '80 and quit the ministry on account of his throat which was not strong enough to stand the constant preaching. Horace m. his classmate, Abbie Whitcomb.
