Loy's family immediately beside Andrew Loy's family; George is a farmer (age 47) with wife Lydia A. (47) and children Emaline (16), Wm. H. (12), Jacob (10), Anna B. (4) and Mary B. (2) - also in the household are Diana Bower (43) and John Seraph (19, "apprentice to miller"). "The Perry County Democrat, 25 July 1900," p. 2: "On Saturday afternoon, July 14, 1900, George M. Loy, one of the oldest and best known citizens of the upper end of Perry county, faithfully reached his goal of earthly life. He breathed his last breath in a sweet sleep and entered the portals of death to wake up to behold the glorious eternal morn in the bright world beyond. His grandfather, Michael Loy, was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, and came to America when young. He was sold to a farmer in Berks county for his passage. His father, Nicholas Loy, settled first in Saville township. Nicholas Loy was first married to Miss Miller, to whom seven children were born. By his second marriage, to Mary Kuhn, two sons were born, George M. Loy and the late Capt. Andrew Loy. George M. Loy was born Nov. 5, 1812. He was married to Lydia Ann Bower, in 1838. She was his faithful helpmeet and the loving companion of his life for fifty-two years, when, in 1890, she departed this life. To them were born the following children: Catherine (dead), wife of Wm. W. Woods, of Blain ; William H. Loy, of Cisna Run: Emma, wife of the late James Murray, of Landisburg: Jacob Loy, of Andersouburg; Belle, wife of County Com missioner T.B. Martin, of Madison; and Mary, at home, Andersonburg. Their lives were blessed with these six most faithful and obedient children. Their declining years of life were made happy and joyous by ten devoted grandchildren and nine loving great-grancildren. Mr. Loy was an industrious and successful farmer. He lived for sixty-one years at Andersonburg, Pa. The past twenty-two years were spent in retired life; but during all this time he was able to transact all his business affairs until the close of life. He was a staunch member of the Lutheran church, of strong faith, and was the happy possessor of a sweet, sincere Christian character. He was ever a kind, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a man with a large, liberal heart; a man of true patriotism, who was deeply interested in the highest welfare of his country, a man of careful observation and of more than average intelligence. He lived to a ripe old age and died in his 88th vear. The funeral services were held in St. Paul's Lutheran church last Tuesday morning, Rev. J. B. Lau, hiss pastor, officiated. The pall-bearers were chosen from the men in his employ at death. At the close of the service the 'slumbering robe' was most carefully and tenderly folded around him as the last token and tribute of honor and love. His remains were interred at St. Paul's churchyard. He was dearly beloved and highly respected by all who knew him."

[38895] Find A Grave Memorial 71592896 offers: "Birth year is estimated; he was the father of five children in 1630. Family records, based on old English records dating from 1215 on, establish that 'Whitmore' is one of the oldest of family names. It comes from the Gothic 'wid', meaning spear and 'mar', meaning famous, together signifying 'famous with the spear', the name of a Gothic King. Tradition is that John and his brother, George, came to America about 1630. John, a widower, settled at Massachusetts Bay, along with four of his five children, his wife having died in England. The children thought to have been with him were, two sons and two daughters: Thomas, Ann, Mary and Francis. [There is disagreement amongst professional genealogists as to whether his son, Francis Whitmore Sr., is from a father by the name of Nicholas Whitmore, who lived at Hitchen, Hertfordshire, England and never immigrated to America.] However, extensive research shows THIS Francis did, in fact, receive land from his FATHER, John Whitmore of the New Haven Colony. John was among about nine men who set out from Massachusetts Bay about 1633 and founded a settlement along the Qunnitukqut River (later called the 'Connecticut River'). It was at an Indian village called 'Pyquag', which would later be known as Wethersfield, Connecticut. Tradition has it that his wife, the mother of his children, had died in England. His name first appears in town records when he sold 58 acres of land in 1639. He married the widow of John Jessup, Hannah [Johanna], nee Kerrich. They had no children together. Because of religious disputes they, and several other families, left Wethersfield in 1641, moved sixty miles west and founded the township of Stamford. John was killed in October of 1648, supposedly by Indians, who wished to take his cattle. The complete inquest into the murder of John is recorded on pages 458 through 463 of: Record of the Colony and Jurisdiction of New Haven (Hartford, 1855) by Charles J. Hoadly. The exact location of his burial is not known at this time. It is recorded as at Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut; probably on his farm. Johanna/Joanna may also be buried in the same location, on the old Whitmore farm."
