[6413] Katherine's obituary in the Bangor Daily News 7 April 2006: "DOVER-FOXCROFT - Katherine A. (Wingate) Nuite, 98, died peacefully April 5, 2006, with family members at her side. She was born Aug. 13, 1907, in Sebec, the daughter of George C. and Ida (Morgrage) Wingate. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy and the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn. After teaching commercial subjects at the Maine School of Commerce, Foxcroft Academy and Newport High School, she went to Washington D.C. in 1931, where she worked in the Interior Department. After two years she had seen and done what she wanted, so she returned home to marry Doran L. Nuite of South Sangerville and spent the remainder of her life there. A lifelong Grange member, she served as secretary of South Sangerville Grange for 52 years. She was a member of the Piscataquis Extension Service and an active 4-H mother. In 1960 she was named one of the two Outstanding Homemakers in the State of Maine, an honor that recognized her skills not only as a homemaker, but as a partner running a successful dairy and poultry farm. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Susie Carr Chapter and served on the school board in Guilford. Her strength of character and steadfast commitment to duty was shown by her devotion to the well being of her family and the interests of her community. In addition to being the wife of the late Doran L. Nuite (1973); she was also mother of the late Bradley W. Nuite (2004), Graham L. Nuite and Wilson G. Nuite of Sangerville, and Barbara N. Lockwood of Dover-Foxcroft; mother-in-law of David B. Lockwood of Dover-Foxcroft and Sally W. Nuite of Sangerville; grandmother of Lewis B. Nuite of Atkinson, George P. Nuite, Blaine C. Nuite, Warren W. Nuite and Barrett H. Nuite, all of Sangerville, Melynn Nuite of Salem, Mass., Maradee K. Jacoby of Blanchardville, Wis., Brenda E. Nuite of Neenah, Wis., Janice Bills of Dexter, Brian N. Lockwood of Apex, N.C., Amanda L. Maddocks of Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandmother of 15 and great-great-grandmother of one. Appreciation is extended to Delores Kelley and Janet Hobson in assisting with dedicated and compassionate care. There will be a graveside memorial service 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Bailey Cemetery in Sangerville." A photo of Katherine was published beside the obituary.
