He had just returned home after spending the evening with his dear friend and close companion, Phillis Russakoff. He was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Lubec, the son of Daniel and Agnes (Boyd) Burns. In 1944 he went to the merchant marine school in New York. On his first assignment with the merchant fleet, peace was declared and he returned to Lubec. "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 21 September 1943, p. 13: "Bucksport, Sept. 20 - The death of Adelbert F. Leach, 49, occurred suddenly at his home here this morning. Mr Leach was veteran of World War I having been decorated for bravery and held the rank of sergeant at the close of the war. For some years he was associated with his father, the late Senator Burke Leach, as proprietor of a shoe store here, and for the past 15 years he operated a taxi-cab. He held Hartley Mauditt in Portchester in Hampshire in 1086 as a result of his service as Chamberlain of the Treasury, and also held Fyfield in Hampshire. He had a son, Robert, who apparently died in the wreck of the White Ship in 1120 without a heir.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portchester_Castle offers: "Around 1090, William Mauduit, the lord of the local manor, built a small Norman castle in the north-west corner of the fort, with a single storey stone keep and wooden palisade on two sides."
