"Biographical Encyclopedia of The Juniata Valley" offers:
Clarion T.Rice, New Bloomfield, Perry County, Pa., was born at Ickesburg, Saville Township, Perry County, December 16, 1846, son of the late Samuel and Mary J.
(Ritter) Rice.
His grandfather, John Rice, was first a merchant, and afterwards turned his attention to farming. He was for five years associate judge of the Perry County courts. He married Miss Ickes. Their children were: Samuel, deceased; Margaret, deceased; George, deceased; William; Oliver; David; John; and Catherine.
Jacob Ritter and his wife, maternal grandparents of Mr. C. T. Rice, were both born in Perry County, and both of German descent. Jacob Ritter was for some years a
manufacturer of spinning-wheels, and afterwards for a number of years was a farmer. He married Mary, daughter of John Billman. Their children were: Elizabeth, deceased; Diana, deceased; George, deceased; and Mary J., deceased; those who survive are: John B.; and Susan (Mrs. Henry Eringer). Mr. Ritter died April 7,
1877, aged seventy-seven years. His wife died in 1879.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rice were both born in Perry County; he was engaged throughout his active years in mercantile business. Mrs. Rice was a daughter of Jacob and Mary (Billman) Ritter. They had two children: Clarion T.; and Jerome, deceased. Both parents are deceased.
Being left an orphan in his infancy by the death of his father, Clarion T. Rice was during his boyhood under the care of his maternal grandfather. Mr. Ritter, who lived
in Tyrone Township. In that township, the boy attended the common schools. His mother also dying while he was quite young, he remained with his maternal
grandfather until he was twenty-one. He then took charge of his grandfather's farm, and managed its cultivation for six years. He is a skillful farmer, a man of
industry and good judgment, and having followed the same calling, that of a farmer, throughout life, his experience and persevering diligence have been crowned with ample success. He cultivated a farm in the northeastern part of Madison Township for sixteen years. In the spring of 1896, he removed to the farm lately owned by Joseph Mills, which he had purchased, and which he has ever since occupied and farmed. He was for two years supervisor of Madison Township. He adheres to the Republican Party.
Clarion T. Rice was married, January 16, 1868, to Elizabeth A., daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Ann (Leidy) Minnich. Their children are: William M., married Ellen
Hollenbach; and Daisy, a proficient in music, resides at home. Mr. Rice is a member of the Lutheran church. Mrs. Rice?s parents were born in Perry County. Mr. Minnich was a farmer, and was also engaged in butchering. He was steward at the county almshouse for six years, and filled other county offices. His first wife was
Mary Ann, daughter of Jacob Leidy; their children were: Cyrus W.; Josiah; Jacob; and Elizabeth A: (Mrs. Rice). Mrs. Minnich died in 1861. Mr. Minnich was again married, to Lydia, daughter of Jacob Balthauser; their children are: Alice; Margaret (Mrs. Snyder); Charles; Ellen; George; Henry; Hooper; Cora; Daniel; and Annie, deceased. Mr. Minnich died in September 1896, aged seventy-three years. He was a member of the Lutheran church, in which he held different offices."
[58278] Leeland is son of John Warren Tibbetts (1902-1995) & Rose E. Alley (1909-1999; m. 9 February 1924 in ME). His obituary: " Leland E. Tibbetts, 56, passed away Aug. 12, 2004, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 8, 1948, in Bar Harbor. He was a veteran of the Navy having served from Nov. 18, 1968, - Sept. 24, 1970. He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, and the U.S.S. Little Rock Association. Leland loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the water. His favorite pastime was drinking coffee with the boys. He is survived by his children; sons, Leland Alley, Wilford Tibbetts, Michael Tibbetts and wife, Tori; daughters, Tammy Tibbetts, and Keely Tibbetts; grandchildren, Logan Alley and one grandson on the way; brothers, John Tibbetts and wife, Lucille, Theodore Tibbetts and wife Allison, and 'Red' Theodore Tibbetts; the love of his life, Lynda Barnes; best friends, Karen and Dale Thompson; very special friends, 'Buster' Charles Huntley Jr. and Vicki Johnson, Gracie Urquhart, James Alley, and Newman Thompson; nieces and nephews, Penny, Trudy, Valerie, Isaiah, Atrica, Estelle, Whitney, Rana, Emma, Alvin, Alvin Jr., Ina, Sarah, Harry, and Eli. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose (Alley) Tibbetts; sister, Alisha Rose Tibbetts; and Horace Tibbetts and Kathleen Ackley."
