[53869] Find A Grave memorial 21529639 offers: "Harold of Poland passed away peacefully at his home, and now is at rest in his eternal home. He was born in Greene to Harry and Abbie Blaisdell Goss. After Abbie's death in 1910, his father married Ruby Edwards who raised him as her son. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1928. On June 28, 1930, he married Dorothy Carolyn Pulsifer, his schoolmate whom he met when 11 years old. He moved to Poland at 7 years of age. When 15 years old, he worked as a bellboy at the Riccar Inn at Poland Spring. Finding himself unemployed with a growing family, in the depths of the depression, he began a lumber and then a coal business. He expanded his business into Goss Hardware Inc., eventually developing Depot Square in 1952 in Mechanic Falls. He operated his hardware store for more than 40 years. From 1935 to 1939, he served in the Maine State House of Representatives, representing Poland, Greene and Wales. He also served on the Advisory Board of Depositor's Trust Co. for a number of years. At various times, he was a member of Gideon's International, the Poland Excelsior Grange, the Amateur Radio Missionary Service and The Fraternal Order of Masonry. He was an active member of the Pleasant Street Baptist Church in Mechanic Falls for 83 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and in other capacities. He also assisted the Wycliffe Bible Translators as a Wycliffe Associate. During the 1950s and 1960s, he provided his Isle of Somewhere on Lower Range Pond, in Poland, to area churches to use as a Christian camp. He will be remembered by his family and friends as kind, considerate, hard working and honest who believed God and sincerely sought to worship and serve Him. He is survived by his wife and his five daughters, Evangelyn, and husband, William Jackson, of Sinton, Texas, Ellen Goss of Arlington, Va., Jane, and husband, James Whitesell, of Palm Coast, Fla., Faith, and husband, Michael Pock, of South Portland and Grace, and husband, John Cartwright, of Ashburn, Va.; his son, Harold Jr., and wife, Mary Ellen, of Poland; a son-in-law, John Averell of Arlington, Mass.; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elwood Goss of Gadsden, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Winona Haslett and Ruth Averell; his sister, Faith Talbot; and five brothers, infant Paul Harry, William, Paul Adrian, Julian and Ara."
