[60755] Joan m. 1st 17 June 1950 David Leory Scripture (1928-1956). She is a daughter of Pearl Smith (1898-1963) & Ruby Marie Crawford (1905-1984; m. 10 December 1923 in Brewer, Penobscot Co., ME). "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 25 July 2015: "Levant & Bangor - Joan M. Potter of Bangor passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 24, 2015 with her family at her side. Having survived numerous illnesses, looking death straight in the eye, God finally decided to give her a break, and allow her to leave this life and join his heavenly choir. Her perpetual smile and warm nature reached inside the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. She inspired the best in everyone and will never be forgotten. Joan loved her family deeply and warmed the hearts of all family members with her genuine greetings. She lived a full and active life, not allowing a song to pass without her singing and dancing to it. She never passed a stranger without a friendly greeting and embraced every opportunity to make those around her smile. Joan was born on September 11, 1933, the daughter of Pearl and Ruby (Crawford) Smith. She grew up in Hampden and Bangor, made her home in Levant for fifty years and was a life member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was predeceased by her first husband, David Scripture of Bangor in 1956 and by her second husband, John Potter in 2004. She is survived by sons, Lloyd Scripture and his wife Joyce, Larry Scripture and wife Darlene all of Hermon. She is also survived by daughters Wanda Potter and her partner, Leo Coombs of Berwick, ME, and Donna Carleton and fiance Sean Soucie of Bangor; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; 3 sisters and 1 brother, Ella Clewley, Gloria Sands, Arlene Ogilvie and Wayne Smith. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Vernon, Joy, Jack, Gordon, and Carl. She also leaves several cousins, her church family, and many special friends."
