[58277] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 July 2023: "Phoenix, AZ - Richard B. Nickerson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away in the evening of Monday, July 17, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona. Dick was born May 30, 1941, in Swanville, Maine, the son of Clyde and Evelyn (Moore) Nickerson. He is survived by his wife, Janice (Whipple) Nickerson; his four children, Steven Nickerson (Fran), Melanie Frost (Gary), Michele Campbell (Michael), and Eric Nickerson (Kerinne); and 5 stepchildren, Julie West, James West, Kari Pollock, Peter Fecteau, and Benjamin Fecteau. Dick is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two sisters, Barbara and Carol; and great-granddaughter, Kiera-Michele. After graduating from Crosby High School in 1959, he served in the National Guard. He moved to Chicago with his family where he worked, attended college and started his family with his former spouse. They soon moved to California, where Dick worked full time to support his growing family while attending night school. Ultimately, he graduated from UC Long Beach with a degree in engineering. After a few years of employment at McDonnell Douglas, he moved his family to his home state of Maine. His incredible work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit resulted in two successful steel businesses - and a never-ending list of home improvement projects. He married Janice on June 11, 2005, and they built a beautiful life together in their respective native states of Maine and Arizona. As an avid Red Sox fan, Fenway was a favorite destination for Dick and Janice. They also enjoyed traveling around the country, Mexico, and Ireland. Dick was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities, including as Bishop of the Bangor Ward. His example of faith and perseverance is one of his greatest gifts to his family. He had a wonderful smile and could make friends with complete strangers. He loved his wife and family most but had a tremendous fondness for his Harley Davidson and at least some of his dogs. He was kind, loving and selfless. Never to be forgotten are Sunday night popcorn, perfect lobster rolls, Super Bowl parties, cheese crisps, sailing trips, monopoly marathons, a well stocked refrigerator with IBC cream soda, family dinners, Halloween shenanigans...and, of course, the spirited cribbage games."
