[48820] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor,ME], 10 May 2018": "Frankfort - Our loving family patriarch returned to build his Heavenly home on May 8, 2018. Rodney Edward Gray was born on March 28, 1936, to Christina and Kermit Gray of Orland, Maine. He graduated from Bucksport High School in 1954, and from Maine Vocational Technical Institute's Building Construction program in 1957. A member of Epsilon Pi Tau, he received his Masters of Education degree in 1970 from University of Missouri. As a Master Sargent in the Air National Guard Reserves he served 22 years at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, ME. A true 'Welcome Back' story, he returned to teach his love of building construction at Southern Maine Vocation Technical Institute for the next 36 years, retiring in 2006. His love of family and Christian faith defined his continual service to others, serving years in leadership roles as Branch President, Bishop and Councilor, as lay (unpaid) ministry. Able to combine his building expertise he secured and oversaw numerous church meetinghouses' construction and travelled extensively in New England and Maritime Provinces. He loved having a workshop and almost anything to do with wood. A master craftsman, he shared his expertise and knowledge to all who asked. Numerous homes, additions, and thousands of wooden gifts stand as a testament to his love and generosity. Waiting for an eternal reunion is his wife of 57 years, Christine Conners Gray, and their four children, Matthew Gray, Martha (John) Hebert, Elizabeth (Fred) McKenney, and Rachel Gray Larsen. "Grampy" will be sorely missed by his ten grandchildren, Lauren, Devin, Callum, Myles, Isabel, Benjamin, Lydia, Gabriel, Amber, and Allison, and four great-grandchildren, Xavier, Vivian, Aiden, and Claire."

Said to be a direct descendant of Sir Ellis Hicks, knighted on the field of battle at Poitiers on 9 Sept 1356 by Edward, the Black Prince. See "Sir Ellis Hicks (1315)...," Eugene Clifton Hicks (Wilmington, NC); "A History of the Higges or Higgs Family," William Miller Higgs, F.S.G. (London: Adlard & Son, Ltd., 1933), p. 295. BetFoster1@aol.com shared in June, 2003: "John Hicks (there were two John Hicks), was his [Robert's] great great grandfather, born 1455 and Joan Damer was Robert's great grandmother, born 1459. So - James was the father of Robert Hicks; Baptist was the father of James and Thomas was the father of Baptist and the son of John Hicks and Joan Damer." The date and place of marriage are not verified, but are given by Alisha Michael on http://awt.ancestry.com in 2002.
