[59538] Rose's obituary: "Whiteside, Rose P., 73, of Palm Harbor, died at home Wednesday, November 23, 2005. Rose spent her whole life doing what she loved, helping others. She touched the lives of many people all over the world. In her scrapbook, you see her brightest smiles when she was helping at an inner city school in Washington, D.C., or with disabled adults in Alabama. In recent years, even after discovering she had cancer, she helped to 'get in the way' of violence in Colombia and in Baghdad with Christian Peacemaker Teams. In a world of body armor and guns, she went about the work of peace armed with only the cross around her neck. A greater example of bravery and conviction can not be found. Rose was born in Bradford, Maine, and came to Tampa in 1995 after living in several other locations. She graduated from University of the District of Columbia and University of New England. After 18 years as a full-time mother and homemaker, she worked for 23 years as a registered nurse in Maine and Florida. She was a member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa and Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT). Survivors include her husband, Haven Whiteside; four adopted children, sons, Matthew Whiteside of Maine and Jonathan Whiteside of Ontario, Canada, and daughters, Joanna Pompa of Ohio and Kathy Perry of Florida; foster daughter, Susan Sleeper of Maine; seven grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Catell, Marjorie Niles, Lois Knapp and Lorraine Higgins, all of Maine, and Marilyn Bommer of Massachusetts; and brothers, Paul Pray and Adrian Pray, both of Maine."
