He was born Feb. 12, 1925, on Pleasant Hill in Hermon, the son of Alvin Urban and Myrtle (Ellingwood) Hatch Sr. Urban was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving three years during WWII, participating in the Normandy Beach invasion on the second landing. Urban received battlefield honors including the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with one battle star and the Croix de Guerre. He went back to high school after WWII as a post-graduate, preparing to go to UMO under the GI Bill. He met Ada Hanscom, a senior at Bar Harbor High School, and they were married Oct. 15, 1948, in a double ring ceremony with Norman Hatch and Shirley Hodgdon. They raised their family in Salsbury Cove in the 'Tea House.' Urban and his dad started the business A.U. Hatch and Son Wholesale Fruit and Produce the next year. They delivered to the hospitals, schools and grocery businesses all over MDI and Ellsworth for the next 15 years. In 1965, they also took on frozen food and delivered to the same places and Downeast, clear to Woodland. Urban and his father then had a Second Hand Shop in Ellsworth for a few years, and later he drove school bus for Trenton and Bar Harbor. His hobbies were camping, fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He especially loved his camps at Duck Lake and Donnells Pond and flying his various airplanes. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Urban is survived by his wife, Ada G. (Hanscom) Hatch; seven children, Alan U. and wife, Susan, Bruce A. and wife, Lisa, Carl W., Dana A. and wife, Lena, Ellen and husband, Chris Eaton, Annette and husband, Lee Clein, and Beth and husband, George Lawson Jr.; one sister, Elaine and husband, Richard E. Emery; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Carolyn Hatch Dunton; and one grandson, Jonathan Wayne Hatch. He was also predeceased by many ancestors, including William Hatch, The Elder of Situate, Mass., who immigrated from England in 1634."
