[54189] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 3 Jul 2023: "Mapleton - Blake Randy Buck, age 83, died peacefully on June 29, 2023, at Presque Isle's House of Comfort surrounded by family and listening to music he loved. He was born on January 30, 1940, in Mapleton, to Jack and 'Mattie' (Robichaud) Buck, and Mapleton is where he remained for most of his life. In Mapleton, Blake met his wife, Rose, raised their four children, founded his business, and was a member of the United Methodist Church. The couple also resided in Portage Lake and Sebastian, Fla. As a boy, Blake faced an education system that was not able to see his brilliant mind beyond his hearing difficulties, which would have stopped most people from reaching their goals. However, Blake was hard-working and determined. At age 16, his father got he and his brother, Maynard jobs at Loring Air Force Base working on underground bunkers. Nearby, a mason was working on a building being constructed by brick. Characteristically, Blake struck up conversations with this man and became interested in his trade, which led to the mason allowing him to lay some brick himself during Blake's lunch break. Eventually, the big boss" caught wind, observed Blake's work, and immediately hired the young man. From then on, Blake got an old pickup and wheelbarrow and started by building countless fireplaces and foundations before moving on to bigger projects, working alongside his brother, Brian, sons, and dedicated employees which eventually became a wonderful company, Buck Construction, Inc. Here, he continued to teach and mentor his sons and grandsons. If a person was ever lucky enough to take a drive in Aroostook County with Blake, they were sure to receive a lesson on which potato storages and buildings were built by Buck Construction. Blake had passions that existed outside of his business, but whatever he was doing or trying, he gave it 110%. He enjoyed boating in Florida where he would take his family out and he also taught himself how to golf. Through consistent practice and patience, Blake became great at the sport, but what he loved more than playing golf was teaching others to love it, too. Some of his lessons included keeping one's head down and only playing nine holes to keep his wife happy. Blake bought his first motorcycle in his 60s and made memories driving it with Rose up to their camp and down to Florida. Blake's greatest passion, though, was his wife and family. He and Rose married on July 14, 1967, and he became a shining example of what a spouse should be. Blake took Rose out to eat, always held her hand, made her laugh, complimented her beauty and wits, and even carried a pillow to their grandchildren's sporting events so she didn't have to sit on the hard bleachers. Blake made sure that his family was well taken care of and loved, and anyone that listened to him talk about his wife, children, or grandchildren felt how proud he was of each. Blake will be dearly missed by his siblings, sister-in-law, Mary Anne of Mapleton, Maynard and his wife, Joye, of Mapleton and Florida, Cheryl and her husband, Charles Nickerson, of West End, NC, Brian and his wife, Pam, of Mapleton, and David and his wife, Pam, of Etna; his children, Katheen and her husband Dave, Greg and his wife, Cindy, Jeff and his significant other, Liz, and Tyler and his wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Erica, Kristan, Jennilee, Grant, Reed, Dennis, Danielle, Jeramy, Jordan, and Liza; 15 great-grandchildren; and countless friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Elizabeth Buck; brother, Jack Jr.; grandson, Dustin; and parents, Jack and Mattie. The family sincerely thanks Regina Craig for the excellent care and compassion she gifted Blake in his final months, as well as the excellent care with his short stay at the Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital and the Aroostook House of Comfort. To have known Blake Buck was to know kindness, generosity, determination, great intelligence, exquisite stubbornness, a phenomenal sense of humor, humility, and love."

[45425] "The Akron Beacon Journal, 31 October 1950," p. 53: "John E. Sieber and the old Buchtel Hotel that he loved so well are both gone now. Mr. Sieber died Monday at his residence, 1006 W. Market St. He would have been 85 next month. He had been ill for a year. He was the last living charter member of the Akron lodge. Loyal Order of Moose, which he organized while he was chief clerk at the old Empire House which stood on the present site of the Portage Hotel before he transferred to the Buchtel. Eight years ago he began a brief and, for him, tragic reunion with the old Buchtel, which stood where the WADC building now is at Main and Mill sts. He returned as manager of the aging hostelry after an absence of more than 30 years. As chief clerk of the old Buchtel shortly after the turn of the century, John Sieber, tall and dignified, had stood in the ornate lobby and welcomed many notables. Lillian Russell had swept into that lobby with all of her beauty and charm. Jim Jeffries had stopped there in 1910. When Bob Fitzsimmons, king of the heavyweights, came to Akron with his own theater road show, he stayed at the Buchtel. John Sieber had opened the old Buchtel register to such theater greats of the day as Lotta Crabtree; Robert Downing, the tragedian, arul George C. Miln, the Chicago Methodist preacher who traded the pulpit for the stage. Presidents McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt were guests of the house. A wooden frame viaduct, long since gone, connected the hotel with its ballroom, directly across Mill st. Many were the gay parties there, livened by the concoctions of white-coated bartenders in the big mahogany barroom. Familiar local figures in John Sieber's lobby included O. C. Barber, the match king who founded Barberton; A. H. Noah, young rubber industry magnate; J. H. Andrews, general manager of the Quaker Oats Co.; Sen. George W. Crouse, and many others. In 1909, Ila Forney, a pretty, dark-eyed brunet from Barberton, set up manicurist's stand in John Sieber's tiled lobby and he found frequent occasions to desert his desk and chat with her. They were married in 1910. On one occasion an elegantly dressed traveling salesman, anxious to let small town Akron know that a big-timer was among them, registered at the Buchtel. While Mr. Sieber looked on, the salesman signed his name with a flourish and then, in letters large enough for all to see, added his address 'New York.' Mr. Sieber handled him characteristically and, it is said, very effectively. 'New York, eh,' he remarked, cocking a jaunty eyebrow at the salesman. 'Who's running the hotel there now.' Thirty-two years after their marriage and following 25 years of absence from Akron, Mr. and Mrs. Sieber returned to the old Buchtel -she to help him manage it - in 1942 Time had taken its toll of the once grand old hostelry. War workers, mainly Interested in a place to sleep, and old people forced to watch their pennies, trod its dingy lobby now. Gone were the top hats, the liveried footman, the rich red carpet. 'There isn't anything wrong that soap and water and paint can't cure,' John Sieber told a friend valiantly. He and Mrs. Sieber went to work. But in July, 1944, fire drove 40 guests from their rooms. The blaze was checked without serious damage but City Hall cracked down and a few months later condemned the old Buchtel. Kent, and is son of Richard Willard, "a yeoman of Brenchley, England where he died leaving a will dated September 18, 1658, proved October 24, 1658." The unverified OneWorldTree in Ancestry.com in 2011 proposes that Richard is son of Simon Willard (b. 1530 in Horsmonden, Co. Kent, d. 26 Feb 1584 in Goudhurst, Co.
