[60567] Richard's obituary: "South Portland - Richard Guy Mullen, 86, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2023. Richard was born on December 15, 1936 in Levant, ME to Guy and Rhoda Mullen. He was the fourth of five children raised on the family farm there. He graduated from Hermon High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine at Farmington. He went on to earn his Master of Science in Education degree at the University of Southern Maine. Soon after graduation, Richard embarked on a 60-year teaching career at both public and private schools in Maine, Connecticut and New York, with the final 43 years spent at Cape Elizabeth High School. Richard thrived at Cape Elizabeth as an English teacher and was well known for developing and coaching speech and debate teams, and directing theatre productions. His students work garnered numerous state championships and awards over the years, yet his true reward was seeing the life and career successes of his students who wrote him letters and visited with him -- even decades after their graduation. Richards dedication to his craft extended to his numerous family trips and home film and theatre productions with his wife, sons, numerous nieces, nephews and dogs. Later in life, Richard rekindled his childhood farming experience and bought a small blueberry farm in East Machias, Maine. He loved spending summers at his lakefront cottage where he could manage the blueberry operations and tend to his flower garden while preparing the next falls lessons. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, his quiet generosity, and his mischievous spirit. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Julienne Mullen; three sons: Andrew Mullen, Patrick Mullen and Thaddeus Mullen; daughter-in-law Tiffany Mullen; and grandson Thomas Mullen as well as brother Gary Mullen, and sisters Elizabeth Dow and Leota Cronkite. Richard was predeceased by his father Guy, mother Rhoda, and brother Robert Mullen."

[39064] Find A Grave Memorial 68539772 offers: "Elihu Norton born in Edgartown, Dukes, Masachusetts, was the eldest son of Patriot Seth Norton, Sr and Amy Norton. Wilmot Wass and wife, Rebecca Allen Wass preceded Daniel Look and his wife, Ann Butler Look, Seth Norton, his wife Amy and their children to Pleasant River between 1767-70. Other families who'd left The Vineyard in Massachusetts and joined each other, were the Beals, Driskos, Leightons, Crowleys, Plummers, Nashs, Coffins, Wasses, Looks, and Nortons. Elihu married Sarah "Sally" Beal, daughter of Manwarren and Lydia (Welch) Beal, Jr in 1780. Elihu and Sarah together had 9 children. Elihu was known as a great friend and companion of the local Indians, socializing, hunting together for their families. And it's said, they much enjoyed Elihu's fiddle playing. Once when Elihu was laid up with an injury, his native friends carried him among them in a basket! Elihu's military history: he served under Capt John Hall's detachment, drafted for the Militia service in Machias (Aug 1777), he served by order of Col Benjamin Foster and marched to the assistance of Machias (Sep 1777), served there while British Ships lay in the Harbor. He served at Penobscot marching with Major Bagaduce by order of General Lovel. Along with his father, Seth, Elihu and 38 other men, executed the capture of the British War Ship HMS Margaretta (12 June 1775). It is not known where Seth, Amy, Elihu and Sarah were buried, but knowing of these humble Pioneers - it would be thought, they'd been lovingly laid to rest where they'd settled, toiled, loved and laughed. And as family has passed down, the site of the Old Elihu homestead is at Hopkins Point on land that borders Moosabec Reach, near the old Lamson Store in the West Jonesport area."
