[45893] "Battle Creek Enquirer [Battle Creek, Michigan]," 21 August 1980, p. 8: "Coldwater - Ralph R. Day, 81, of 39 Maple Lane, and formerly of Battle Creek, died today in Carriage Inn Convalescence Center, where he had been a patient one month. He had been ill one year. He was born in Union City and came to Coldwater in 1977 from Battle Creek, where he had resided since 1928. He was a graduate of Union City High School and attended officer training school at Western Michigan University. Day was employed from 1923 to 1928 as an engineer at Peerless Portland Cement Co. in Union City. From 1928 until his retirment in 1964, he was employed by Michigan Carton Co. in Battle Creek, first as an operating engineer and from 1948 until 1964 as power plant superintendent. During his tenure, a new power plant was constructed in 1955. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church here and a former member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek. He and his wife, the former Georgia Schlappi, who was a teacher in the Battle Creek area, celebrated their 50th wedding anniveraary in 1976. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Donald J. (Georgann) Reppert of Coldwater; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren."

Granddaughter Jessica wrote in March, 2006: "'Gram spent most of life being a stay at home mother taking care of her four children. She did work for a short time at a local farm once the children were in school. She has always been involved with her children and their families. 'Grampa' always called her the 'mother to all children.'" Her obituary in the Bangor Daily News 10 Aug 2012: "SEARSPORT - Elizabeth E. Connor, "A mother to all children," 78, passed on Aug. 8, 2012, in Searsport, with her loving family by her side. Elizabeth was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Searsport, daughter of Clifton and Sadie (Bailey)Ward. Elizabeth was a loving and unselfish woman who always gave to others. She was an avid collector of many things and loved going to the flea markets to see her "family." She enjoyed spending time at the horse races and will always be remembered for her great love of the color pink.
