[4677] His dates and full name are from his death record - "California, Death Index, 1940-1997," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org). "Sonoma West Times and News [Sebastopol, CA], 1 December 1955," p 3: "Last Friday the last rites were held for the great civic leader, Ernest Freeman Jewell, 86, of Camp Meeker, who died in a Santa Rosa hospital on November 22, following a long illness. Mr. Jewell had lived in Camp Meeker for many years where he was a real estate broker. He was also active in many of the local civic groups during the years. He was born in Indiana and came to Sonoma County in 1903. He had served as a mayor of Sebastopol and also as deputy county clerk of Sonoma County. He was also time keeper for the County Maintenance Yard here for many years. Our deepest sympathies are ex tended his widow, Mrs. Carrie Jewell, of Camp Meeker; his son, Dr. William Jewell, Oakland, and his daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Reinhardt, Sebastopol, and Mrs. Marguarite Fuller."
