Hackett, 73, a former Postmaster and former chairman of the Board of Selectmen, died tonight at his home, 7 Park St., after a short illness. A resident here since 1885, he was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. For a few years he served as a drug clerk until he became an agent of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He leaves a son, Frank H. Frank married Harriet L. Allen on July 9, 1902 in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Frank was a graduate of Wakefield High School and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. He served as Postmaster of Wakefield from 1923 to 1934 and was a former chairman of the Wakefield Board of Selectmen."

John was married on 20 October 1881 to Mary Ellen "Ella" Barnett, daughter of Punxsutawney pioneers David Barnett and Mary Elizabeth Dunmire. They began their lives together in Young Township but shortly after purchased property near Grange in Perry Township where they remained the rest of their lives. They were the parents of sixteen children, 12 of whom survived. Both John and Ella were life long members of the German Reformed Church and joined with the St. John's Reformed Church of Perry as adults. John passed away at home in Perry Township at the age of 61."
