Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Reid¹s Funeral Chapel of Greene is in charge of arrangements. Myrtle Mae Heichel was born March 9, 1917, at rural Washburn, Black Hawk County, a daughter of Freace and Dagmar (Rasmussen) Heichel, and died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. She received her education in the Cedar Falls Public Schools and was united in marriage to George Shorman on September 30, 1934, in Princeton, MO. They made their home in Cedar Falls where they owned and operated a Texaco Service Station. In 1945 they moved to Greene where they purchased the Greene Cafe, which they operated until 1949, when they acquired Price's Grocery Store and made it into a restaurant and bar which was called Shorman's Place. In 1955 they purchased the Sportsman's Inn from Max Kent. Following Mr. Shorman's death on November 21, 1961, she continued to operate the business until 1964. Myrtle will be remembered as a helpful, caring, and giving individual in her vocations as wife, mother, and business owner. Many will attest to those home cooked meals, desserts, and genuine hospitality to those she served. Her interests included deer hunting, fishing, gardening, and crafts. She also enjoyed bowling.
