[57035] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 23 August 2024: "Hollidaysburg, PA - George G. Pervear was born on April 16, 1929, to Edna Allen and Howard Pervear in North Brooklin, ME. He grew up with brothers, John and Howard; and sister, Betty (Williams). He enjoyed school and playing sports so he pursued a degree in physical education at the University of Maine. After graduating, George served in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps. Following his service, George attended Springfield College and earned a master's in sports medicine after which he started his long and distinguished career as an educator. He briefly taught at a boys' school in New York, before he settled into a 40-year career at Suffield Academy in Connecticut. During his tenure, he met and married Helen Steele (predeceased) and gained a stepdaughter, Deborah Nash Eaton. A few years later, George and Helen welcomed Nikki (Varney) into the world. George served many roles at Suffield including Dean of Students, Dean of Faculty, basketball coach, and the school's first athletic trainer. After retirement, George regrew his Maine roots in Stonington. He enjoyed any physical labor and watching his granddaughters, Megan, Erin, and Lauren, grow. After Helen died, he spent his last years at the home of Nikki and Dave Varney, surrounded by family until he passed peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2024."
