Private Ayers was mustered out at Fort Union, New Mexico Territory, September 30, 1864. He re-enlisted as a veteran volunteer at Fort Union October 25 and was mustered into Company B, same regiment. He was mustered out at Fort Garland, Colorado Territory, June 30, 1866 (Orton, pp. 101, 118)." His pension appliation was filed from Ohio in 1889.

[46722] Find A Grave memorial 77242228 states Nathaniel is son of John Steen & Mary David and that Nathaniel also m. in 1889 Nancy Jane Good (1845-1923). Nathaniel Steen's extensive obituary is in the "Bucyrus Journal [Bucyrus, Ohio], 19 December 1919," p. 7, which reports he was a Civil War soldier, a butcher and meat market owner, and held several offices in the city of Bucyrus. His father, John Steen, emigrated from Ireland at age 12 and in 1827 married Mary Davis of Cumberland Co., PA. Nathaniel and Elizabeth had no children. 8 May 1890 Nathaniel married Nancy Jane Zook - they had no child but she brought to the marriage a son, Lloyd Zook.
