[51362] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 10 October 1931, p. 5: Following destruction of a road machine the sheriff had determined that a Mr. Butler and Willie Colson were responsible. The sheriff went that evening to the "residence of James E. Colson to arrest Mr. ColsonÂ’s son Willie. Mrs. Colson said that Willie was out and that her husband had gone to Pigeon Hill. While the officers were in the house a gun-shot was heard at the back-door and it was found that the elder Colson had shot himself through the head and had died almost instantly. Medical examiner Dr. Harry O. Johnson was called and while he was making an examination, Willie Colson walked in. He was placed under arrest. He and Butler were taken to Machias jail and will be given a hearing Saturday morning The reason for the suicide of the elder Colson is a matter of conjecture - possibly he may have thought that the officers had come to arrest him which was not the fact as no warrant for him has been issued - the son being the one wanted."

"Anne Arundel Gentry, Vol. 3," Harry Wright Newman (Lord Baltimore Press, 1933), p. 157: "On September 27, 1791, Richard Ridgely of Frederick County purchased from his sister and brother-in-law, Henry Hill and Alice his wife of Newberry County, South Carolina, his sister's share in the parental plantation 'Ridgely's Delight' of 215 acres in accordance with the will of their father, Westall Ridgely, which reverted to the heirs after the death of their mother, Sarah Ridgely, which occured on December 11, 1789."
