[55720] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 6 February 2024: "Bar Harbor - Jane L. Carter, 85, passed away Jan. 28, 2024, at Ross Manor in Bangor. She was born in Lubec in 1938, daughter of the late Salvatore and Louise Flower. Her childhood was mostly spent living in Washington County. Her grandparents owned Flowers Shoe Store in Lubec. We, as her children, would visit her family and get shoes. Simple pleasures. Her childhood home was in Pembroke. Her parents took on boarders who became family. It was a full house, Jane, her two brothers, and parents. Mom (Jane) would talk about life back then and her love for country life. Mom moved to Bar Harbor when she was 17. She stayed with family while she worked during the summer at Dicks Diner. This is where she met her true love, Stanley Harris. They moved to Fort Bragg to live for a few years. The family was growing and as with most families, things didnt always go as planned. They made the decision to move closer to family for support. Raising four children in Bar Harbor. They bought their first house on lower Ledgelawn. They were so excited they bought groceries (canned goods), but no can opener! Life continued to be busy, Mom was an avid reader, knitter and a homemaker. Mom was a very good listener. She would talk at length about anything, and she would give her point of view but respect yours. For 46 years she hand-quilted baby blankets. For her grandchildren, her friends children and the nurses at Seaport. She would trace patterns and carefully embroider them. She loved it and she knew all the babies names. She would talk about each baby and their family. She continued this until one week before her passing. Jane was widowed after 34 years of marriage. She continued to work at the Jackson Laboratory. Where her co-workers regarded her as being kind and caring. For over forty years, she cared for colonies of research mice with precision and careful detail. Jax researchers knew that they could depend on Jane to be certain those colonies were carefully bred and ready for their research. At work she met a new fellow from there, they started talking. Mom made the first move with a simple note. He had the hardest time trying to figure out who mom was and if she was the 'Jane.' Stetson Carter walked up to mom and said, 'its you!' Scared Mom half to death. She was such a great woman with a great laugh. They went for rides then longer trips. Eventually traveling to meet her Vermont family. They married in 1994. The Carters welcomed Mom into their family. Holidays, weddings and stays were enjoyed at 'Janes Cottage.' Moms life was full. She said she was the luckiest women with two great husbands and a beautiful family. Jane was predeceased by her brother, John W. Flower, sons John and James Harris, her first husband Stanley Harris, and second husband Stetson Carter. She is survived by her brother James and Dale Flower of Colorado; children Lee Harris and recently deceased wife Kathy, Brenda and husband Roger Gray, Robert Harris and wife Nadine, Brian Harris and wife Pam, and Eric Carter and wife Annette; grandchildren Tommie, Bobbie, Sonja and Leon Hubbard, Maynard Vance, Zachary and Brook Harris, Nicholas Hayden and fiancé Maryann, Jameson Harris, Katrina Harris, Tiffany Harris, Joseph and Renel Carter, Joshua and Jehan Carter, Shep and Mimi Carter, Lindsey Carter, and Vinnie; great-grandchildren Brody and Cole Hubbard, Andrew and Ayden Harris, and Ario Carter; cousins Christopher Flower, of Colorado, Mathew Flower, of New York, Tim Flower, of Colorado, Vincent, Brawyn, and Zoe."
[59288] George is said to be son of George Gray and Sarah Gamage.
