[5345] Henry Bolingbroke succeeded to the Dukedom of Lancaster in 1399, and overthrew Richard II who had siezed the Lancastrian estates. With much energy he defeated all opponents and concluded a treaty with France which secured the kingdom. Henry IV "was seized with a fainting fit, and died that same evening in the Jerusalem Chamber. He was buried at Canterbury." The fit seized him while he was praying in the Abbey.
