[5345] Henry Bolingbroke succeeded to the Dukedom of Lancaster in 1399, and overthrew Richard II who had siezed the Lancastrian estates. With much energy he defeated all opponents and concluded a treaty with France which secured the kingdom. Henry IV "was seized with a fainting fit, and died that same evening in the Jerusalem Chamber. He was buried at Canterbury." The fit seized him while he was praying in the Abbey. (2) Joan of Navarre (d. 9 July 1437), daughter of Charles II (King of Navarre) le Mauvais and Joan de France, and sister of Charles III of Navarre.
