He was Ellsworth chief of police from 1933 to 1937 and a deputy sheriff and turnkey at the Hancock County jail from 1937 to 1951. Mr Herrick was bom at Surry February 8, 1890, the son of Frank and Eliza (Grindle) Herrick. For many years prior to becoming a law officer he worked at the blacksmith trade. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Herrick; five sons, Ernest of Orland, Harold of Bucksport, Leamon of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Frank and Elmer Herrick, both of Ellsworth; five daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Moore of Lamoine, Mrs. Helen Cushing of Pembroke, Mrs. Doris Hamilton, Mrs. Gertrude Linscott and Mrs. Catherine Swett, all of Ellsworth; a sister, Mrs. Eldusta Brown of East Holden; a half-brother, Albert Herrick of Lamoine; three half-sisters, Mrs. Effie Tourtelotte of Bowdoinham, Mrs. Annie Smith of Franklin, and Mrs. Muriel Wilbur of Eastbrook; 17 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins."
